Finding geeky/nerdy girls for dating...

Shame you're down in the south and I'm up in the north, as I'm a bit of a girl geek and have been single now for quite a few months - have attempted dating sites and met one person on POF who shared similar interests but there was no spark there sadly.
I agree with everyone elses sentiments about specialist forums, especially as some have meet ups - I enjoy retro gaming and cosplay so have met up with a great bunch of people through that0 -
go to eastercon, redemption, novacon, scifi london, comicon, expo, etc etc. Look for groups on meetup.com. There are many geeky London pub meets like B&B7 and LOTNA.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Another one - without meaning to lump people in a certain category box - try 'real ale' pubs. The very geeky friends I have will only go to those sorts of pubs.
And the folk type festivals seems to attract a certain type. I went to Cropredy a few years ago and it was a complete contrast to Latitude that I'd been to the same year! A very different sort of crowd (obviously). Great fun!

Wow! I was thinking I'd see maybe one or two replies when I got home but 13! Thankyou very much to everyone who has replied! :-)
I hope I'll be able to respond to what everybody has said - I'll try my best!
There's some good ideas here and I appreciate them.
I think finding a club or group is a good idea; I've had a quick look for my local area and it's not very encouraging. The area I live in isn't renowned for this kind of thing. I found a sci-fi book club which sounded great until I saw that it seems to have died sometime around 2010! D'oh! However, there is an anime club which I might give a try next week. I guess it depends on how many people around my age are there.
Online forums sound like a good idea - I've been making a list of things that I like that I think will lend themselves to lots to discuss on forums so I'm going to Google on those a bit later on and see what I come back with.
Unfortunately my work place is mostly guys so not much chance to meet anyone there. There is one girl of my age there but she's married! lol
Crossing paths with someone that shares any of my interests is very rare for me unfortunately, I think this is due to the area I live in and also the hours I sometimes have to work. Most of my friends don't share my interests either - we've tried the friend of a friend thing a couple of times but nothing has ever come of it. Most of my friends are married and busy with families and things like that.
The meetup and convention ideas sound good thanks - I'm going to have a look into those tonight!
Thanks again everyone for the ideas - I'll let you know how it goes! :-)

Age...well yes, but remember people you meet will have siblings, children, cousins and possibly friends of other ages too.

Does she have friends? Does she know ypu are looking? Seriously, exploit your existing network, she could be a good place to start.

Work existing friendships for introductions to their single friends and relatives

You sound proactive.and nice. I hope it works out for you. Re dating sites, what is your profile pic like, have you aked a female friend to look at it and be honest about whether it shows you in your best light?
Good luck!0 -
I would second the 'real ale' pubs. You may get the fair share of the stereotypical real ale drinkers but I have found quite a few geeky interesting people while drinking in these pubs.

Do you play online games (MMORPGs)? It's how I met my hubby (playing Neverwinter Nights online) and how my sister met her hubby too (Ultima Online). All very happily married.

You sound like you're after someone like a friend of mine - she's now in a relationship, but she was ok OKCupid so I'd say stick at it. I met my OH through Plentyoffish and I found the best filter was to be very upfront about what you look for in a partner on your profile. I think one of my sentences was "Love me, love my dogs" and I wasn't joking - I have two large breeds, which some people can be intimidated by (GSD and a Rottweiler cross), and my life did/does revolve around them a fair bit, so it was very important to me that someone was not just "not bothered", but actually a fan of dogs. When OH got my MSN email off me and messaged me with "Oh, is that one of them? He's cute" in response to my MSN picture, I knew he was a potential keeper!0

You should try hanging around the geek mothership....

especially when there's a book signing. I used to go there a lot (not to meet men, my son's a comic book nerd!) and there are always lots of girls in there.
I'm a bit of a geek, Mr B not so much. It's taken me 15 years but I can now get him to sit down with me and watch a programme on BBC4 about electricity or cosmology without him falling asleep. Don't narrow your search down to a specific type of woman, even if you meet a nice non-geek, you can always turn her to the dark side! :rotfl:
Good luck!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
