I'm a hot, single girl geek;-)
I used POF, there are loads of people local to you but if you're like me I found that I just didn't think we'd have enough in common. On a paid site like match you might find a lot more people you might have a connection with though I found that they tended to be spread further afield, it depends on how far you're prepared to travel. A lot of the paid sites let you join for free and just browse, you just can't contact anyone till you pay up. Perhaps join and look around and then decide if you think it suits you?0 -
I second what Emmzi said, I've been to a fair few cons etc and there are normally a fairly good mix of women and men some of whom are single
I met my partner through match.com, he's a full time geek and I'm of the fairly geeky persuasion and from chatting to people on there I found lots of people who shared my interests.0 -
I am a total nerd and have met a few geek boys on dating websites, including some of the ones you mentioned. I guess if you stick with it and make sure you mention your geekery in your profile you will eventually find someone0

Met my current OH on Plenty of Fish, 18 months, living together, never been happier.
Although I have to say, I met some complete nutters.
Just keep 'banging away' (mind the pun), and if it works great, if it doesn't, scrap 'em.
Try POF, OKCupid etc etc. Be VERY specifc in your profile, and take a chance with whatever comes your way!0 -
Do you play online games (MMORPGs)? It's how I met my hubby (playing Neverwinter Nights online) and how my sister met her hubby too (Ultima Online). All very happily married.
- Self-confessed female sci-fi/fantasy geek
This... while I'm not the sci-fi/fantasy person (I'll read a bit but not massively), I'm pretty much an RPG gamer/gadget/tech geek type girl and ended up meeting my husband on one of these (and not it's not chuffing World of Warcraft before anyone assumes it is!).
Does going all the way down the country for a video game music concert qualify me as suitably geeky? I believe it does (especially ringing up the second tickets went on sale for the front row ones)!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
More great replies - thanks again to everyone! :-)
I've contacted a local anime group and they've confirmed that they do have people of my age there, so at least I won't be a 32 year old guy amongst loads of 19 year olds! That would perhaps have looked a bit inappropriate! ;-)
So I'm going to that on Tuesday and I've been invited to a barbecue they're having on the following Saturday! Sounds like fun! :-)
I'm going to have a look at the online games... that sounds like it could be an interesting way of at least chatting to some fellow geeks! Which one do you all recommend for the social side of things?
I've been having a look at a few forums too - I'm going to sign myself up to them tomorrow as I want to allow myself a bit of time to write introductions and things.
I've tweaked my profile a bit this evening on OKCupid and will probably add some more specific things to it tomorrow and then see how that goes too!
It's going to be interesting to see where all of this leads me - I'm hoping I'll at least make some new friends if nothing more than that! :-)
Cheers all

Sounds pretty cool to me and - of course - suitably geeky! :-)

There is a brilliant convention in Peterborough this weekend! I am gutted to be missing out as a massive geek, but sending the boyfriend (IT nerd) and sister along to take plenty of pictures.
I think there are less girl geeks than boys, but looking at all this lovely posts, we are out there! My boyfriend knew he was in love with me when he saw my DVD collection, all Star Trek, Aliens, LOTR and not a chick flick in sight
I also second the part about real ale- you will always find plenty of girls there that love a geek. Don't discount the non-geeky girls that you might still have a lot in common with.
Oh and I highly recommend online dating, it is how I met the boyfriend... in a way... it was at a mutual friends wedding that met online. Good luck!0 -
I met a couple of geeky guys on OKC and my current bf (who is a little geeky) on POF
I'd pretty much given up on the whole dating thing when WHAM! i met someone awesome so have faithThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
