I'm not really into all that 'hilarious' mother-in-law joke stuff anyway, nor jokes about how useless men are or how women are nothing but nags and you'd 'get less for murder'. It's lazy and unfunny and should be consigned to bad end-of-season shows in Blackpool. The world's moved on, IMO.
    Exactly.

But then again, facebook appears to be the place to share platitudes
jayzuss, some folk really ought to get a life.

The op posted something that amused her.

How other people perceive that, is out of her hands nor her responsibility. She found it to be funny and passed it on.
So maybe the ones who need to get a life are those who feel the urge to share their own "feelings" with the world and his dog and yet feel no responsibility on how their comments are perceived.
When you put something in the public domain, you accept some responsibility for it.

I strongly suggest you unfriend your MIL on facebook to avoid any further problems.

someone I have a good idea who phoned her up and now shes pizzed off with me!

If my DIL unfriended me just after this, I would be even more convinced that it wasn't a joke and that she was showing what she really thought of me. It also wouldn't stop someone else telling me about other things on DIL's facebook page.

Actually, if I was the MIL and I had done nothing to upset my DIL, I would find it particularly offensive as a resposne, like pouring oil on a burning pan.

Why not become a reasonable grown up and start thinking about the consequences of your actions?
After all, it probably won't be that long until her kids want to be on facebook and share the fun...

I'd be offended if someone posted that about me and not to me, if you see what I mean. If it was a laugh you should have emailed it or posted it to her wall, or tagged her in it saying 'just joking Janet' instead of posting it in general to everyone, that way shes included in the joke and reassured you're not making a general point.

The thing is, you know shes not like that, she knows shes not like that, but do the rest of your friends? Thats what I'd be worried about if I was her.

I think just by asking the question you're aware you've upset her. Do the right thing and apologise without qualification.

It is funny because it's true - every parent makes their own mistakes with their kids because we are only human. However, I can understand why MIL would be upset. Tbh, I don't think you should be FB friends if she is offended by this type of humour - you clearly have dissimilar tastes and are not real life "friends". At the least, you should change your privacy settings so that she can't see your wall posts.

    Woaw.
You need a personality to see the funny side of a crass joke?

Maybe you need a dictionnary instead of a transplant.
