would this offend you or are people just to touchy

I was on facebook ( yes i know) the other day and a friend had a pic on her profile of a cartoon ladies face and it said "dear mother in law, I don't need you to teach me how to handle my children, I have one of yours living at home and he needs a lot of improvement" so i "shared" it on my profile I knew my mother in law could see it and I thought she would find it funny, it made me laugh but someone I have a good idea who phoned her up and now shes pizzed off with me! :s i tried phoning her but i remembered she was going out tonight so ive sent a text saying it wasn't meant to offend I just thought it was funny. Would this offend you? http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s320x320/378641_275313059188115_245916092127812_845382_1732432129_n.jpg

If I was a mother in law and my daughter in law posted it, then yes, I would.

She's your only mother in law I presume, so who would it be aimed at if not at her?

My MIL is a friend on Facebook and I'm sorry but I would never share anything like this on my wall, because I know she would be hurt and think it was a comment directed at her. If she had shared a jokey cartoon with the caption dear daughter in law, you aren't doing a very good job of raising your children, would you genuinely have thought it was just a funny cartoon, or would you have read into it an implied slight?

My MIL would get huffy at it. One of the many reasons I don't have parents or PILs on Facebook.

But overall it's funny, it's not meant to be actually true and if people insist on being on Facebook and being friends with family members then they have to expect this kind of thing IMO.

It says "Dear mother in law...", it's on your FB page - as someone else has said, you only have one MIL.... so, it is safe to assume that this message is from you and is directed at your one and only MIL.

So, unless you have a close and trusting relationship with your MIL and share the same sense of humour then I feel you owe her an explanation, an apology and take down the offending words before anyone else sees it.

It would amuse me if my daughter or son's partner posted it and I would share it as I know my OH's mother checks my page.

BTW my son and daughter are in their 30's.

On a similar note I shared a 'funny' on my page and my son pm'd me and gave me a telling off because his 20 month old might see it in the future, purleeeze!:rotfl:
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
  • I think some people are way over sensitive to stuff like this. As you say it is a cartoon ladies face and the comment is a gentle joke. There was no need for her to make far more out of something than was ever meant. If she wants to be pizzed off with you over something so harmless then she has issues in my opinion.
