It's like a lot of 'jokes', funny (slightly) if you know you aren't the butt of it.
  • Well if I thought she was the kind of person who wouldn't take a joke then I wouldn't have posted it but I honestly thought she would find it funny, the part about having one of yours at home more than anything because she knows full well what her son is like and we always joke its like me having 3 kids. "If she had shared a jokey cartoon with the caption dear daughter in law, you aren't doing a very good job of raising your children, would you genuinely have thought it was just a funny cartoon, or would you have read into it an implied slight?"
i don't think that's the same at all

But it is the same - you've just told her exactly that. And a private joke in person is completely different to posting her lack of parenting skills all over fb.

well seeing as Im only married to one man then yes. its just a funny picture. Its not like it even says don't tell me how to bring up my kids, or anything such as that.

The 'funny picture' and message says that you live with one of your MIL's children and that he needs a lot of improvement.... as in, you think she did a less than good job at raising her child (your OH) - how else can this be interpretted.
    :hello:
  • I think some people are way over sensitive to stuff like this. As you say it is a cartoon ladies face and the comment is a gentle joke. There was no need for her to make far more out of something than was ever meant. If she wants to be pizzed off with you over something so harmless then she has issues in my opinion.
thanks i guess i just thought after being married to her son for 6 years I knew her better than that but obviously not.

I do, and so does your MIL obviously. What does your husband think?

on the flip side the person who "reported back to her" never went to her own sons wedding and doesn't talk to her son or daughter in law so maybe she thought she would try and do the same to us and when she sees me in the street always asks me if her daughter in law is expecting yet

I wouldn't try to put the blame on someone else. Always a sign of a guilty conscience.

Not offensive to me but i know my MIL would be offended ... however i wouldnt have called and especially not then text her. Thats just encouraging drama and a fall out!

Laugh it off, if she has an issue then tell her to deal with it, it wasnt personal and life is too short. :T
