At NationalExpress coach company you can buy an 'early bird' e-ticket or m-ticket online for a quid. So, if you are seeking a pressie for mum you can buy her a ticket to come visit you. If you need to by a pressie for the in-law, you can buy her a ticket in the other direction:)
Or, why not send them both to Blackpool...

  • 1. Make a No1 Mum badge, using card from a cereal box, a bit of paint, ribbon or whatever and some cellotape and a safety pin. The badge can be as big, cute or homorous as you like.
    2. Transform a a simple pen or pencil with pipe cleaner, some exercise book baking paper and some pom poms.

If you dont have a laminator the following works:

    1. Put the piece of paper/card/photo/whatever in the laminating sheet
    2. Put the laminating sheet inside a tea towel
    3. On a low heat evenly iron each side of what you want to laminate (through the tea towel)
    4. This should melt it just enough to stick together and - hey presto - laminating without a laminator!

Your local church may well arrange for the children to have a little posy of flowers or small gift for mums - last year I had some whole nutmegs . And although it's usual for the children to present them straight to mum, if Dad leaves mum having a lie-in, the little present can always be taken home afterwards.

    But do check first ...

    For knitters :

Cast on 11 stitches, knit 1 row, cast off 8, knit the 3 remaining stitches, return knit the remaing 3 stitches & cast on another 8 (taking you back to 11) knit 2 rows & cast off 8. Repeat until you have 24 "fingers", at this stage it should resemble a long strip with "fingers" poking off one side! Roll up so that it resembles a sea-aneome or flower & stitch in place. Add a bead or 3 in the center then finally attach to a pin or scrunchie to make a broach or hair accessory:D I made 1 complete one yesterday whilst watching Ugly Betty so really fast & easy even for novice knitters;).

Photos of a work in progress :

    And a finished project :
    http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f352/Lillibet123/DSCN4238.jpg

    Cost :

    1/4 of a £1 shop ball of wool : 25p
    1 scrunchie from Wilkinsons 2 for 59p range : 30p
Beads : 50p for a whole necklace from a chairty shop & enough beads to make about 10 "flowers" so 5p.
Inital outlay : £2.09 but enough materials to make more than one. You could make 4 for £2.68
    Indvidual cost : 67p:D

    HTH;)

  • I got a card from my daughter as part of my Christmas present, and I think it would be very welcome Mother's Day gift. I quote - "This voucher entitles the holder to one full day of housework/removals without complaint or backache! XXX" Nice idea?
  • How about making up a book of vouchers, which Mom can later present to be filled. This can apply whether your living at home or not, and can include any household chores that mean Mom could take a day off: such as, "I promise to clean your car." "I promise to mow the lawn" or "Do the shopping" "cook dinner" etc etc. This kind of present means Mother's Day can last until the next one!

Lovely little glass Bud Vase in M & S. only £1.50 - also a sneaky future bargain as you only need one flower to refill it in future!
