  • I tried phoning today to get a better deal but got nothing but rudness. I've been an NTL customer since 1996 so the change to Virgin Media has done me no good whatsoever and i've lost the Sky Channels - I've been told I'll have to wait 'til next year to see them on Virgin Central.
  • chatted to Virgin Media today regarding the 10mb speed increase to 20mb in May. It may mean that you need a new modem and even though you currently rent your modem, if you do need a new one it will cost you £25 for the privilege!!!
Never pass up the opportunity to take a pee!:p

KickTheCat don't bother about that call and try again on monday. You'll eventually talk to someone (choose the "Thinking about leaving" option) that's willing to give you a rebate.
You've got nothing to lose but a bit of time at trying again and you'll save loads over the year (my rebate makes me save £252 a year!!!).

    Better luck next time... ;)

Had: Telewest starter TV Phone rental 4mb broadband for £41.50pm After a 35 minute wait on hold and 5 min chat: Next size up TV Phone rental with free w'end and evening calls 10 mb broadband for £32.50 The deal is for 12 months, then goes to £45, at which time I can renegotiate. Not the best deal I've seen here, but it'll do me for now, especially as I've read that the bb is going up to 20mb!http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/img/ml-thumb-spin2.gif :money:

Thank you for that advice. I still haven't called yet...Not sure what I should be looking for in deals.

I haven't called either as don't know what to ask for.

    Have got :

    Additional Line rental £11.00
(gone up from £7.50 some weeks ago)
this for computer being old and unable to have broadband.

    Dial up line - Free

    says 3p plan on bill - O.OO (I don't know what that is) ?

    TV & Telephone service - £16.50

    TV Family pack £8.00

Paying £35.50 monthly + calls. (mainly use 1889)

NTL have said the will install Digital tv Free (only analogue at present)

what should I ask for? Can't have b/band until I get a new computer.
Have been with NTL about 10 years.

    Thanks for any advice.

Blame it on a combination of a busy week and an early morning but I phoned Virgin Media this morning before I thought of checking on Martin's site for any tips!!!

Currently I have broadband with NTL, the phone is through The Post Office (£50 cashback) and the tv channels are through Sky (old box, old dish, sky controller broke yesterday). Total cost is £55 per month (football channels included).

I phoned Virgin Media this morning - I was offered tv channels with sports, broadband and phone that gives you free calls at the weekend. I was told I would be given £30 credit off my 1st bill (helps with the £25 installation bill I suppose) for £46.50 a month.

Does this sound like a good deal?

I personally would get rid of the lot as I use my mobile phone for the few calls I make (with my free virgin sim cards I am able to order every now and again), I could use the library internet and I prefer to read rather than watch tv - but husband says he doesn't go out to the pub etc, we don't have a car and don't smoke - so he feels that the package is his luxury.

Therefore I'm trying to get the best deal possible.

Sorry for waffling and thanks for any replies.
(I have also posted this on another thread but I have realised this is the most appropriate thread)
    All credit cards paid off.

    Talked with NTL today.
    With them since 1996.
    Rude, unhelpful and poorly trained.
I will be rid of them in one month.
    Come on Sky
  • aylesby... try again on monday... you'll end up speaking to someone more helpful.

I just got a letter from VM this morning announcing Phone XL going from £14 to £9.95 and Phone L from £5.50 to £3.95, line rental staying at £11.
And also, from the 1st of May, BB XL going from £35 to £37 a month, because they're switching from 10Mb/s to 20Mb/s!!!
Great news for the speed then, but I wonder how this is going to reflect on my new deal (since Wednesday) of Phone L, TV XL and BB XL at £45 a month...

Let's wait and see until May 1st, unless one of you knows more about this already.

Phoned up and don't seem to have got the best deal compared to this thread:

    XL TV
    XL Telephone
    M BB

£34.95 per month (was £37.95 made up of £19.99 for 2MB BB, Talk Unlimited and phone line, plus £10.25 for Family TV). Before Christmas I had XL BB, Talk Unlimited (as a result of getting them to price match Talk Talk) and Family pack (1/2 price) for around £30, so I am now paying more for less - not a very good negotiator! Apparently this new price amounts to a discount of around £25 on the monthly bill, but never sure about that as it is good as saying that Sky offers a £305 saving over Virgin (only achieveable if you pay full whack for Virgin, which I doubt many people will do!).

I asked about V+ and was told it is £10, plus £5 per month if I want the existing box upstairs.

Worth another call? Always worried about getting through to the same person again! I didn't threaten to leave as I am not really considering that option, but would giving 30 days notice get a better result (it didn't used to be necessary).
