I phoned at the W/e to try I did have this

    Normal digi box
    2Mb BB
    L TV package
Phone line with free W/e calls
and was paying £41 a month.

Had a right go at the bloke, even to the point where we started the disconnection process (I dint want to leave!!) he was quite certain that soon the channels would return to Virgin as well.

this is what I settled on
V+ HD box (same but better than Sky+)
    XL TV package
Phone line with free W/e calls
    2Mb BB
all for £40 a month, free install as well

I didint think this was to bad, I didnt phone to get a V= box, and was offered the 3 for 30 but with XL TV upgraded from L.

The bloke knew about forums online and said some quotes were not true about what people are getting.

Anyway I think I am happy, paying £1/month less and getting better TV pack and the V+ box

All I am nervous about is the discount being added ok and getting what we agreed on, has anyone "done a deal" and had any problems with the prices after the telephone call?

    anyone?

Just waited 10 mins on hold with Virgin, after 4 minute conversation got normal monthly bill dropped from £98.00 to £85. Now on VIP package which includes all channels including all the sports which I didn't have before. All the phone enhancements and when my 10 mb goes to 20 mb broadband the price stays the same.
I asked if I would need a new modem and they said most modems would not have to be changed, if there was any problem with the speed they would sort it out.
    Customer service was excellent.

    Result!!!!
    Thanks for all the tips.

Phoned up and don't seem to have got the best deal compared to this thread:

    XL TV
    XL Telephone
    M BB

£34.95 per month (was £37.95 made up of £19.99 for 2MB BB, Talk Unlimited and phone line, plus £10.25 for Family TV). Before Christmas I had XL BB, Talk Unlimited (as a result of getting them to price match Talk Talk) and Family pack (1/2 price) for around £30, so I am now paying more for less - not a very good negotiator! Apparently this new price amounts to a discount of around £25 on the monthly bill, but never sure about that as it is good as saying that Sky offers a £305 saving over Virgin (only achieveable if you pay full whack for Virgin, which I doubt many people will do!).

I asked about V+ and was told it is £10, plus £5 per month if I want the existing box upstairs.

Worth another call? Always worried about getting through to the same person again! I didn't threaten to leave as I am not really considering that option, but would giving 30 days notice get a better result (it didn't used to be necessary).

    May give them another call.

They seem to have added another page to the Sky battle pages as "The Real Deal" explaining that Sky's offer is not as good as it sounds. They then illustrate with their 3 for £30 including XL TV, M (free weekend) Telephone, M (2MB) BB - offer ends 31st March.

    See: http://allyours.virginmedia.com/fairplay/index.html

As a result, I have XL Telephone for £4.95 more than this - so not the £25+ of savings that the CS said (yes, it is a saving off the published tariff and I appreciate it, but ... )

That said, Sky's "offer" of £26 is the normal retail price, so not really offering a discount to get you to switch (6 mixes for £21 as normal, £5 Skytalk .. as normal, free broadband ... now standard ... BT line £11 as normal). You would have thought that they may have come up with a better offer to get people to switch (like they did to Freesat last month - e.g. £10.50 for 6 mixes, £21.75 for 6 mixes, movies and sport - http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52140).

  • I have been with Blueyonder for approx 6 years.

    my original package was
    PHONE RENTAL £11.00
    TV XL £20.50
    PHONE XL (unlimited)14.00
    BB M(2mb) £18.00

    Total £63.50.

I rang them and reduced them down to £34.95.(permanent)

I also wanted the V+ box and they wanted a further £10 for this and £5(they wanted £70 installation if i didn't want the second box) for an additional standard box.ie a further £15.

I pushed and reduced the above by £6.99 .

    My new package is now
    TV XL
    PHONE XL (unlimited)
    BB M(2mb)
    V+ box inc installation
    Second set top box

    all for £42.96.

I am a very happy bunny!

    It's woth a go!
  • Had previously phoned and got bill reduced from £60 to £40 a month for XL TV, talk inlimited, M Broadband. Phoned again complaining about loss of Sky One and now will have V+installed and keep second box for £45 a month.
  • Hi all.

Great website, only just found it mind.

Quick question - am i being greedy?

Originally i was paying £35.50 for Phone (Large), TV (Large) and Broadband (Medium).

After speaking to the customer services lad i'm now paying £34.95 for Phone (XL), TV (XL) but Broadband is still as it was (Medium).

In your educated opinions is it worth me phoning back to try to get the broadband upgraded or should I be happy with what i've got?

    cheers
  • just spoke to nice lady in manchester about my vm bill said i was looking to leave didnt need to hagle with her she went away for 2-3 minutes with my 85 quid a month reduced to 53 per month for as long as i stay with them

    Hi all,

I only joined Virgin Media today for their 2 for £20 deal - telephone and broadband, with free tv basic package.

Can anyone tell me if I can call them and say 'my friend has told me...' to get a better deal on this package? I don't want to miss out. They are installing everything on 3rd April.

    Thanks
