I phoned virgin today, as I recieved an offer from sky yesterday through the post. I was a customer with them previously. I was given an upgrade on my telly as I have the max with telephone and broadband. Also the monthly direct debit payment with Virgin has also been significantly reduced. Result!!!
Thanks again Martin. You've done it again!!!
  • Success!! I got all the details about switching to Sky and called them back and called their bluff. I told them I was leaving and signing up with Sky and was offered half price for my XL TV package, with no time limit. If they hadn't made me an offer I would have switched as I didn't like the way I was treated last time.
  • After a 30 minutes wait, I finally spoke to Steve.

After asking me to go to https://www.samknows.com (under Availability Checker) and to enter my postcode, he tried to convince me that I couldn't get more than 2mb/s with my exchange when the page said 6mb/s with ADSL Max.

He then offered me TV XL, Phone L and Broadband L (4mb/s) for £35 but after mentioning that I used broadband more than anything else he offered me TV XL, Phone L (evenings and weekends) and BB XL (10mb/s) for £45.

I was on 3p phone plan + TV XL + BB XL for £66 per month.
I'm now on Phone L + TV XL + BB XL for..... £45 per month... sweeet!

A nice £21 less a month for life for a better phone option and the rest just as before! (Didn't actually watch Sky... lol)
That's a nice £252 a year for me to enjoy!

Not yet what the French are getting (£20/month for ADSL2 (24mb/s) + 200 TV Channels + Free phone anytime to 49 countries, see tiny url dot com slash 2dox8l) but 32% cheaper for a better package (phone) after a 30 mins wait (10 seconds Dire Straits loop) and a free phone call... Suits me! :rotfl:

Cheers to everyone on this forum. :D
  • Tryed virgin again after failure to improve deal the other day and this time a new operator and a better result we were paying £70 to £80 per month and new deal is upgrade of tv package and reduction of price so total bill will be about £30 per month less than before , a good result and worth phoning back if no luck on first attempt
  • Called VM following the loss of Sky channels. Have had one hassle after another with 'NTL' so this was the final straw....Didn't even watch Sky but thought it was worth a go. Had to wait on the end of the line for just under an hour so that did not make me happy :( but eventually spoke to a very helpful lady and didn't have to try too hard before getting upgraded by 2 tv packages so was worth it........

Was on the basic 3 for £30 package. They have now upgraded our tv to the large package. I asked if this would be till they sorted the sky problem out and Pete advised that as long as we stay with them it will be the same. RESULT
  • Got hubby to phone up yesterday (account's in his name). We were on the "L" tv package. He rang the 150 number and pressed the retentions option. First got offered the XL package for 6 months, ummed and ahhed for a bit, and got upgraded permanently to the XL package, which means we now get ALL the TV channels at no extra cost permanently.

Got no extra on broadband or phone, but it's still a bit extra. :T

    Thanks for this useful post.
Husband rang up yesterday, we were paying £9.99 per month for 2mb broadband and 33.50 for XL tv and talk local evening and weekends. They've kept the broadband at the same £9.99 but reduced our tv/phone to £15 per month :D Very happy about new bill being about £25 per month all in !

This is a really great thread.

I phoned Virgin Media this morning. Dialled 150 from our phone and quickly went through their telephone system to the "Thinking of leaving" option.

Was on hold for less than 10 mins and spoke to a really nice Scottish guy. Since I'm pretty bad at negotiating, I simply said that "We're thinking about leaving as we're a little disappointed with losing the Sky channels and consider that we're paying too much, so would like to know if you can offer us a better deal". He was really friendly and chatty and said "no problem, lets see if we can get you a better deal".

We were originally paying (what seems like an awful lot compaired to what others have mentioned):
    Supreme TV (with 2 boxes) + 4Mb Broadband + Telephone = £71.50 a month.

Anyway, within a couple of minutes he managed to get the price down to £46.50 a month, which obviously I was really happy about, but I mentioned that we use the broadband an awful lot and so he gave us an upgrade to 10Mb for an extra £10.00 - so now our bill is £56.50.

I was over the moon, and I'm glad he didn't offer any "temporary" upgrades (for 6 months etc.) as I wouldn't have been interested - even before phoning up I was only interested in getting a reduction in cost or quicker broadband, and I managed to get both! The icing on the cake is that he said the top broadband package will be speed bumped in May to 20Mb, which customers will either get for free or there may be a small price increase of about £2.00 - either way I can't wait!!

I think the key is just to be polite and courteous - the guy really made my day. Thank you to everyone for the great thread!

Thank you for that advice. I still haven't called yet...Not sure what I should be looking for in deals.
