According to Virgin Media's website, Virgin Central is free. In effect it is just another route in to the TV On Demand - in there there are also a number of programmes free (including catch up tv from BBC and Channel 4). They have additional programmes which you have to pay for - if you are on XL TV, then many of these are included for free, otherwise it is £5 per month.

Hence my comment about £15 - I want the V+ in the living room and my existing standard box moving into the bedroom (which you say is £10)
I knew I had read is somewhere, according to the T&Cs on their website:V+ service must be kept for at least 12 months. Installation is free for new customers. Existing TV customers who keep their existing set-top box in another room for 12 months (£5 extra a month) also qualify for free installation of their V+ service, otherwise installation is £75. If your V+ service is terminated, suspended or downgraded for any reason, or if we need to update or change your V+ equipment, you will not be able to access any recorded programmes.

It may be that retentions are offering both boxes for £10 at the moment with free installation, but the normal pricing for existing customers is £10 for V+ (on XL), plus £75 installation, however, if you want to keep your existing box and have it moved into another room, installation is free and then £5 per month (hence £15 in total).
Has anyone else had V+ added as part of a retention deal please?

i phoned on saturday.. listened to the music for about 40 minutes and then got through to Chris.
I currently have the following package:
phone (talk evening and weekends) + XL TV = £37
2mb Internet = £18
which makes a grand total of £55
It only took 1 min for Chris to reduce this to £24.95 per month for life :money:
And i got talk 24/7 added to my package for free.
all in all, it was really worth calling and waiting. i didnt have to mention the Sky issues, just that my package wasnt really competive compared to the rest of the market.
i'm gonna get my dad to phone up today to see what he can get... he pays around £70 for all his services and has been an NTL customer for a long long time! Ive told him to demand a V+ box! :T
another great result, thanks to MSE :beer:0 -

Tried phoning today, never had much luck. I have been telewest customer for over a year and half explained to lady on phone my concerns regarding loss of sky channels and my large total monthly bill of over £80 as my broadband still at £25 per month. Lady pretty unhelpfull only suggesting reducing my broadband usage to reduce broadband price to £18 no help with sky package or upgrade of channels, she was quite happy for me to cancel my order and go with sky instead which I am now looking into0

15 mins on hold and was offered same package for £30/month a saving of £20/month

virgin customer services are very unhelpful, ntl overcharged me and now say that i can't everything for free.
retentions and CS give conflicting info, also women was very rude who said with BT i could only get 512k broadband.
i hate virgin media http://img.moneysavingexpert.com/icons/icon8.gif

I'm having the V+ box installed and the existing box moved upstairs. Just paying £10 pm. No extra for upstairs box.0 -
Hi
My other half phoned Virgin during the week and spoke to Customer Services who were not helpful - as usual. So I phoned the 0800 number at the beginning of the thread on Saturday and after about half an hour got to speak to this guy. I just explained that we were unhappy with what we were paying and this is what he offered
We had
TV + Movies (everything except Sky Sports)
Broadband - 2MB
Talk 24/7
2 boxes - one downstairs and one upstairs
We were paying £87.50 a month
He offered
Everything we had plus Sky Sports for £65.20 a month for life.
I wasn't that interested in Sky Sports but he said it was included for free anyway. Within about 10 minutes I was watching live World Cup cricket, can't be bad.
We were very pleasant to each other and we have saved over £260 a year.
It has to be worth a call, doesn't it - but don't phone Customer Services - take the thinking of leaving Virgin option
Good luck everyone
PS for Mr Branson
Congrats on good customer service at last from at least one part of Virgin (NTL). I assume you are still making money at these prices so why don't you have a radical review of your pricing structure and target all Sky customers in the areas you have cable and pinch some of the Sky customers, still offering the same deal to current Virgin customers of course.0 -
I have tried Virgin media today. My costs were £58.50 per month for XL tv package £20 for talk anywhere 200 and £18 for wireless broadband via set top box 1MB.
Charges now down to £39.00 per month, but I have had to change from wireless broadband to modem with 2MB speed. They said that unless I changed they would not be able to attach any loyalty codes to my record as they no longer provide the wireless internet through set top box as part of their offers (We have been Telewest Customers since before they were telewest).
I feel as though I may have been given a reduction in the bill anyway if I had just phoned, but maybe not as much as £19.50 per month. I did at least get free installation for the broadband change.
The bill will show charges of £58.50 with a permanent credit of £19.50 each month.
Would I be pushing it if I rang back after installation to try for an upgrade to 4MB?0
