I phoned and was immediately offered a reduction of £5 and had my broadband upgraded to 4Mb and my phone upgraded to free evening calls (apparently I already had free weekend calls). Not bad, especially as the bill was about to go up by £8 due to my initial broadband discount running out. Having read some of the posts here I'm not sure that's the best deal going, but I think I need to check out the packages - I have XL TV but don't actually watch it that much, so I may ring back and say I want to reduce the channels.

Just off the phone... Actually got through within about 10mins.

They said that they could waive the 12 month contract for the tv part of my package, but not the telephone & broadband, so if I wanted to cancel the tv then my bill would actually increase since I wouldn't be on one of the offers anymore!

I asked there was any other options & he said he could increase my tv to XL and give me a discount on the bill, so I'm now paying £31 for XL tv, XL bb & line rental.

Not exactly the result I wanted since I'd rather have went to free tv & paid a bit less for the XL BB & L phone, but better than nothing I guess.

Thing that I found interesting was that he said the Sky channels will DEFINATELY be back by the end of this month. When he said that it kinda threw me off...

Not sure that I believed him, but I couldn't exactly say "No they won't!".

If you took a contract out on a bundle, you would be entitled to cancel the whole lot, you wouldn't need to keep the rest and see your bill go up. They'll tell you anything that they can get away with (because they are on commission and measured individually on retention rate) including that SKy will be back by <insert date of choice here>.

    Hi all!

I have to say though, im really impressed with what Vigin Central offers instead, you can view & pause channels when you want for free, and from speaking to the agent, the more rights to programmes they buy, the more will become available!

Is the Virgin Central service free to use?

    I love Virgin Central.
I am catching up on Alias at the moment and it is great if you are watching it when someone calls you can pause and then rewind or stop it and come back later.
It also deletes he episodes you have watched so that you don't forget where you are up to. That is great for me as I can never remember what the last episode I watched was.

Hi just wondering if I have a leg to stand on regarding phoning Virgin and complaining

Im only 3 months into a 12 month contract with NTL - the 3 for £30 bundle

So does that mean I can't get out of it even if i wanted to? Seriously considering it, although not because of the loss of Sky channels

Got my second bill through last week, expecting £30 as we don't even have a house phone, just took the line as it was part of the package and I wanted the broadband - and the bill was £130! £105 worth of phone calls apparantly, all to "Special Sv" and "Premium", anyway I phoned up about this and they've booked an engineer to come out and check the line this tuesday, although the direct debit for £130 has already gone out!

Too much hassle all I wanted was an internet connection and a few tv channels :|

Im sure a few extra channels would make things good :)

What are my chances, with me being so soon into a 12 month contract

    Mike07,
I think that you can currently cancel your contract if you want as the package is "Not as originally described" i.e. now that the sky channels have dropped off.
I would keep on at them though and they are usually quite understanding. i just phoned up and now I have the same service as you but for only £24 per month. best of luck

It is part of the package which (I think) is XL. I definitely don't pay any extra for it

  • I tried to get some discount for losing Sky Channels but was told that none was available. However, as I had three services (TV, Telephone & Broadband), and because they were offering new customers 3 services for £30.00, I could have a reduction to equal this. That is Telephone Rental. Package L for TV and 2mb Broadband for £30. I was paying £49.50 for the same services but with the XL TV package, so I could have three for £30 plus an upgrade difference of £9 (£20.50 - £11.50) difference between L package and XL package making my new monthly payment £39.00. INDEFINATELY.

Anyone who has three services and is paying more than £30.00 based on the cheapest items should ring and give it a go to get a reduction.

I tried two hours later for my father-in-law but as he had no internet connection and although he is paying an extra £15 per month for an extra box, they were adamant that no reduction could be given to him for losing the Sky Channels.
