Only joined Virgin Media for Sky? Blag some extra channels for the loss

Had no response to my polite email so followed the advice on these pages and called them up (even managed to be very polite & cheerful after being on the line for 45+mins!)
They said they definitely WEREN'T getting Sky channels back
We were offered an 'upgrade' for half-price for 6 months then back to full price if we kept it...was a bit narked (but bit my tongue) that when phoning to express disappointment they actually tried to sell something!
Worst thing was the so called 'upgrade' wasn't! - The channels she reeled off are ALL already on our current package! (large). I told her that and she said that was all they could offer
I said we didnt ideally want to switch to Sky as we're not fans of the company & were really happy with all 3 services from NTL/VM until this (been with NTL forever). She made some remark about 12 months contract - we aren't under any contract since first 12 months ended (she insisted we were but then conceded we arent). She was so off I asked if they actually wanted people to switch to Sky
She said we'd pay alot more for Sky and that Sky themselves were now only offering Sky News and Sky One as extra add on channels (is that true?..I have the sky news on freeview upstairs, know that may change but they still have it now which is more than ntl/vm do)
She suggested we switch and offered to put us thru to the disconnections department as that was prob our best option if we werent happy with what we had! I was quite happy till the channels were dropped and the prices werent.
Feel really upset & shaky now (i know thats silly)
Is there any point/chance of doing more?
ps maybe 6-7pm is a bad time to call? she did sound fed up, nice as i tried to beR0 -
Hi all!
I simply contacted Virgin Media to ask them about how much it would cost to upgrade to one of their new virgin+ boxes, and just for calling up, the agent, knocked off £10 off of my mothly bill!
It went down from £49 to £39, and I still have the Medium Broadband, Large TV package and Medium landline package, all the same as before, bar the SKY One options obviously.
I have to say though, im really impressed with what Vigin Central offers instead, you can view & pause channels when you want for free, and from speaking to the agent, the more rights to programmes they buy, the more will become available!
I've even managed to get a new Virgin+ box installed and my NTL one put in the bedroom, all for a total additional cost of £5 a month more!
Some of you other MSE Experts might argue i've spent £5 more a month than before I called Virgin, but to me, im still saving £10 and getting an upgrade out of the deal!
Might be worth just calling them up if they are pre-empting people threatening to leave and are offering sweeteners to stay.

Phoned VM this morning and asked what the proceedure was to disconnect a very polite chap asked me what the problem was and whether I felt I was getting value for money. I said NO as I felt I could get a better deal with Sky. He asked me to hold the line and would see what he could do. He came back with the following offer
was on
TV - XL
BB - 2 MB
Phone line only
TOTAL £49.50/month
New Deal
TV - XL
BB - 2MB
Phone upgraded to 24/7 inclusive calls
TOTAL £34.95/month for life !!!
Still said I wanted to leave as I missed sky 1 etc but the guy said I would not be able to get a better deal with Sky on the TV package I had. He said the true value of the package he was offering was £68.00 not sure whether this is true. Tried to upgrade broard to 10MB but would wanted to charge additional £7.00 per month so declined...........Halifax loan [strike]£9,000[/strike] - £0.00, Northern Rock Loan [strike]£13,000 [/strike]- £0.00 Sainsbury’s CC [strike]£3,000 [/strike]- £0.00 Marks & Spencer CC [strike]£4,500 [/strike]- £0.00 Halifax CC [strike]£1,400 [/strike]- £0.00

This is your problem. You MUST go through to disconnections/retentions (which ever you want to call it) as they, and only them, can authorise the extra discounts.

So you are now paying £54 or £44 please?
Without V+, I get the set-top box for free (and always have). According to the website, if I sign up for V+, I get V+ for £10 per month (on XL) and free installation if I keep the existing set-top box ... and then get charged £5 per month for the additional set top box (i.e. £15 per month for the boxes). So from having a free STB, I now have to pay for both?
Many thanks

If you have the V+ box and move your existing box upstairs, you just pay £10 pm for the V+ box. That's it! You don't pay any more for the original STB. If they're charging you for that, get on to them quick!0

Just checked VM website and found this:
I want a second standard digital box in another room when I take a V+ set-top box. Is this possible and how much does it cost?
If you take a V+ set-top box and would like a second standard digital box in another room, this will cost an additional £5 per month.
Anyways just waiting for my V+ to be installed suppose to be here between 8 & 1......:j0 -
Ah, so you want three boxes, your original STB, another one upstairs, and a V+ box? If you already have a STB and you want it moved when you get your V+ box, there is no charge apart from the £10pm for the V+ box.0
