Top recommendation!! We re-negotiated our contract with what was Blueyonder at the end of January and got Phone with free weekend calls, 4MB broadband and the Medium TV package for £30. It would normally have been £35 but haggled and got that deal which we were pleased with.

I have just come off the phone to Virgin Media (30 minute wait but worth it) and went through to disconnections. I asked them what my position was with regards to our contract as Sky News and Sky One were two of the main channels we used to watch. The clearly tired yet very helpful (and friendly!!) gentleman on the other end said well how about if we give you free weekend and evening calls for life, still the 4MB broadband for life AND we upgrade you to the XL TV Package ALL for life AND still for just £30!!!

I can't believe it!! THANK YOU MARTIN !!! Power to the people!!!!:j
  • Wotnext,
I did a bit of research to find out how much I would have to pay if I transfered to Skys basic package (£35). I rang and said "How do I leave for SKY as it is considerably cheaper ie £35. Several options were offered but I was happy with a £15 reduction in my bill. I have phone, TV XL and BB L(4 Meg). I was expecting a tussle but they folded pretty quick. Consider what you would settle for before you ring - you could have various options to consider.
Go for it, you have nothing to lose.

  • As an NTL customer for ten years I was rather p'd off that I was paying more for my combination of broadband, telephone and TV (including premium channels and V+ box) than new customers. I called and asked to be put on the VIP package at £85 per month, which gives faster broadband and cheaper telephone for £10 month less than I was paying before and they did this without quibbling.

Then the usual 'Is there anything else I can help you with today?' I asked if there were any discounts because the Sky channels were no longer carried and was told, 'Yes we can give you a reduction of £9 a month for six months." Again no hassle so it appears that all you have to do is phone up and ask for this.

I have just phoned 150 and spoken to them. It transpires that we pay £86.50 per month! Anyway, I explained that we were considering leaving as Sky could offer a range of services at a better price. The best he could offer was the VIP package which would mean upgrading to the V+ service, plus an extra box and unlimited calls, but that only saves £1.50 a month, and is a general offer to all customers.

He advised me to speak to Customer Relations tomorrow, who would be able to negotiated a deal with me. He said he'd put a note on our file to state that we were unhappy with the cost of our services and that we were considering disconnecting our services to obtain a better priced package elsewhere. ;) So I will call them tomorrow. I've got nothing to lose. If worse comes to the worst, I will take the VIP package (and get more for less money), but I am hoping to secure it for a better price tomorrow.

    Hi all

Great news on the discounts - I've tried to sit down with the phone twice this afternoon with a cuppa to listen to the hold music and both times, I've had to hang up for one reason or another.

Does anyone know their opening times as I do not want to wait on hold for an age just to be told that the retentions team are closed!

I can't see opening times on the latest bill or website...

Well as a virgin media customer on their 3 for £3o deal (ex ntl) phone tv & broadband.

I complained about losing sky one as we love the simpsons!!

Was told they couldnt do much as we were on a special deal so I told them we still had sky dish up and a receiver so could go back to sky very easily.

They offered to reduce out £30 a month to £20 a month for 6 months.

Result as far as im concerned!!!

If you are merely "considering" leaving your current provider they can only "consider" what they could potentially offer you. It's a question of wording really. Tell them that you wish to disconnect (even if you don't intend to) - that way, as far as they are concerned, you have made your decision and they now have something concrete to negotiate with ie your custom. "If" they don't negotiate (which is VERY rare indeed), the worst that can happen is that you lose face and tell them you've changed your mind.

    Good luck
