Was paying £65 per month to Virgin/ntl for basic t.v. unlimited local/national anytime phone calls and broadband. Phoned and explained nicely that I applauded Virgin for making a stand against the Murdoch empire but I'm a hypocrite and terribly miss Sky news and was rewarded with top t.v. phone & broadband package for £35 per month for as long as I stay with them ie life! so Hurrah! :T:hello:

I rang Virgin Media and told them I was unhappy with my service. I had been with the company for about 15 years when it started as Diamond Cable, then went to NTL and now Virgin Media. I had all three services with them, Telephone, Broadband and Cable TV. I was spending about £60 per month with them and they were offering new customers deals for half the price I was paying. What price loyalty! They reduced my package by half and stated it would be indefinite whilst I was on the service. I now have the full XL package, 2mb broadband and free weekend phone calls. I signed up for the 2 for £20 package. I spoke to VM yesterday and they said if I was to cancel, then I could only cancel the tv package, which would save me £2 a month. I would still have to pay the £18 for the broadband. Something doesn't make sense, the whole thing cost £20 a month, tv on it's own is £14.50 a month yet if you get it with broadband, then it's only £2 a month!!!. Anyway, at first they offered me £10 credit but after another 15 minutes they upped it to £20 credit. Why would they be so keen to give me £20 quid to stop my canceling my tv, which would mean them losing £24 quid a year. They have basically gained £4 a yeah from me, something doesn't make sense. Am I being conned???. The man I spoke to said to phone back next month and he would see what else he could do for me if the problem with Sky isn't sorted0

I see that one of the cheapest deals that people have been able to negotiate for all 3 basic services is £24. I'm currently on the 3 for £30. Has anyone been able to negotiate that down to £24?
Thanks0 -
Hubby rang last night was waiting for an hour and 10 minutes!!! Was very peed off with music in the end...... but he spoke to 2 lovely ladies and got movies for free for life... and they're ringing up tonight about installing V+ which is costing us the usual £10 a month they're also putting the old box in the bedroom and waiving the £5 a month for that for the 1st year. We were on the 3 for £30, with XL tv but do subscribe to sports. So thank you Martin would never have thought of this until read thread in yesterday's newsletter!!! But what gets me about VM is the bill is paid out of a joint account but because it's just in hubby's name they won't let me do anything with it won't speak to me if I need to ring up with aquery and he's at work all day and I'm at home 3 days a week. It's easier to get through when I'm at home but we have to wait til the evening when it's much busier to call them about any problems etc.

i phoned vm this morninig to ask them how i go about leaving, the gent on the phone said he could do it over the phone then he paused and asked my reasons for leaving, so i explained that the only reason i joined ntl as it was before was because my other half liked sky one etc, etc, he then said he could try reduce my bill for me, so my pakage was previously £43.00 and vm are gonne bring it down to £30.00 :j :j wow i never would have thought of ever trying the scare tactics but they worked :T
thanks MSE Martin :money:0 -
Yes, Martin has come through again. I just phoned then and they offered me a reduction of £4 and an increase to 81 channels immediately, taking me to £34-50 for telephone line, 2Mb broadband, anti virus, anti spyware and television. I asked for a further reduction for the basic TV package (I'm not that interested in more channels to watch repeats) and have now got the whole to £24 pm indefinitely. A saving of £14-50 per month. Good Ole Martin. Good Ole Moneysaving peeps. :j0

Got my 3 for £30 deal down to £24. Basically sky is offering the same package for £15, plus £10.50 to BT. That gets you free evening and weekend calls, up to 59 tv channels (inc sky 1 if you want), 2 meg limited downlaod. So would be £25.50 with sky.
VM up to 40 channels(no sky 1), free weekend calls only, 2 meg unlimited download. Price reduced to £24.
So in some ways sky is a better deal if you phone in evenings and like sky 1, but not so good if you download a lot. but i cant be bothered to change plus sky has £40 installation fee. And i like that you can always negogiate with ntl/VM. Shame it just always takes so long to get thro.

I can't believe what I have just been offered! Dialled 150, did the menu choices (thinking about leaving Virgin) and then spent 20 mins waiting to speak to someone. Told her I was unhappy about Sky One and Sky News being withdrawn and had gone onto the Sky website to find out how much they would charge for a similar service and had found out that we could get a much better deal from them. She took my postcode and told me I was not in an area for Sky's free broadband so would have to pay £11 for that. She then said she would see what she could do and looked at what package I was on -TV - L, BB - M (4 mb), phone - L (free evenings and weekends). She told me she couldn't do anything about the BB it comes through our set top box and not a modem and asked why we hadn't got a modem. I told her it was because we had not been given one by ntl. She said she would order a modem for us and it would be delivered on Monday am (was that OK with me? - yes it was) and that she would reduce the price per month from £54 to.......wait for it.......£29.50 for life!!!! I was absolutely flabbergasted!! So why, I asked, were Virgin not telling all their customers about this? Because they have been too busy answering calls from people who are thinking of changing over to Sky!!
So, if you are in 2 minds as to whether it's worth phoning them up, don't be. I did not have to make anything up, I was totally honest, and I didn't have to push her at all. And she was very nice and polite. Obviously a reduction in the "normal" price is right there, just for the asking.
Thank you to Martin and everyone who has put messages on here. I am now going to be £24.50 better off each month! If I hadn't read this thread, I would never have phoned them.0 -

Yes, and then some. You may have missed my ealier post but since I didn't want any extra tv channels, I asked for discount instead, well he offered to reduce my monthly bill since I said I didn't want extra channels.
Now have basic tv,
2mb broadband
phone line with unlimited calls 24/7 for £16.50 per month !
So you could definately get better than your 3 for £30****************************0
