  • Just off the phone to Virgin Media RE: loss of Sky channels. I had selected the option to speak to someone if I was "thinking of leaving Virgin". I was on hold for 20 minutes (not long compared to some, I see!).

The Lady I spoke to was very pleasant and I remarked to her that I had been holding but was mannerly and friendly throughout our conversation. I asked what was happening now the Sky channels were lost: would there be a reduction in the monthly cost?! She explained that most of the "big" Sky shows, such as Lost, would be moving to Virgin Central within the next few weeks and proceeded to lookup the details of my Virgin package.
I am on the basic TV, BroadBand and Phone package of £30 per month and, without any cajoling from me, she proceeded to upgrade me to the XL TV package - indefinitely!:T
I was more than happy with this result especially as, in my opinion, Sky isn't that big a loss!
The lady added that, apparently, Sky are removing their channels from Freeview and other cable providers also. hmmm, is this true?

  • I rang the number given, waited for about 8 minuets, then spoke to a very helpful chap named Dave and within another 3 minuets came back and offered a discount for the life of my contract with Virgin of £16.00 a month. Thanks for the advice and keep the good work up. :j

The Freeview part was certainly rumoured (see HERE) and then it was rumoured they'd had second thoughts!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
