Just thought I'd share my experience...
I was paying about eighty-odd quid for phone, XL telly with Sky Sports and Movies, and 4MB broadband.
Phoned VM and chose the 'thinking of leaving' option.
Waited about 15 mins and told them I'd had a Sky brochure through the post which offered me a similar package, but with 10MB broadband, for £58.50. (All true BTW!)
The lady, who was really nice, friendly and helpful, offered me 10MB at the 4MB price forever (even when it's upgraded to 20MB in a couple of months), put me on a 'bundle' which will apparently translate to a permanent £10 discount, AND gave me XL telly for the price of L for six months.
I hardly had to say anything - just needed to make the right noises as she ran through the options for me. And tell her I would be a loyal customer for a bit longer now!
helen5 - and anyone else in doubt - if my experience is anything to go by, you won't need to beg or argue the toss to get a worthwhile discount. What have you got to lose? Go for it!
Finally, thanks to all the Money Savers in this thread for providing the impetus for me to spend a very profitable and satisfying 20 minutes this evening :T

Hi
Just thought that I would mention that it does work. I was originally on medium TV and 2mb broadband and the 321 phone total £40 plus calls per month. I rang Virgin and told them that I could get sky 6 mix plus sky talk (free evening and weekend) plus up to 4mb broadband for £36. In reply Virgin have given me 4mb broadband, free evening and weekend calls plus the XL tv (was the family pack) for £35 per month no strings. Thats saved me £5 a month plus calls as well as more TV cannels and faster internet.
Go for it!0 -
I dont want to go and I dont want to phone up begging its not in me to do it But I do think there should be an offer they give to all custemers I pay £37 for Tv and phone and £18 for BB there seems to be far better deals for people who do phone and say they are leaving, and new customers.
There is an offer they (and all companies) give to all. They're the ones you see advertised. It's just bargaining to get the best price you can and if that means getting something for nothing - then why shouldn't you ask? If companies gave their very best offer ever and openly marketed it, there wouldn't be as much research and development as the companies wouldn't be able to offer it.
I would like to add to "Virgin Media" posters comments that I must admit on very few occasions there have been "outtages" or disruption to service but they are few and, I feel, only to be expected - it's another reason to request a deal. Their Customer Service is outstanding. Have always enjoyed negotiating with Telewest and if tonight's experience is anything to go by, I will continue to do so with Virgin Media. Telewest have always understood that I wish to cut my costs without cutting service - they have always delivered for me.

Sorry - I meant to say that "(Research and Development)..........wouldn't be able to AFFORD it".

I'm in two minds about exploiting the situation, since I never watched any Sky channels on principle, due to the Murdoch factor, and I'm inwardly applauding VM for their position.
However, I need to call VM next week anyway, since being a complete hypocrite and upgrading to the Movie package at the end of Feb to watch the Oscars.
I only ever had the base package, and the nice man told me it was cheaper to upgrade to Movies from the XL pack, which was currently free for a month, so I could get all channels, with the reduced upgrade (if that makes sense) and next week is my deadline to revert back to the smallest possible package.
I barely watched any of the extra channels (though I've recorded about 50 films while I had the movie channels!) so I won't miss it at all.
I'd far rather upgrade my broadband speed, so I'll see what I can do next week...0 -
I've already got the V+ deal had it installed 4 days before all the Sky one stuff hit the fan, I've had loads of problems with the V+ box and have had engineers in twice, thankfully all sorted now but to be honest it's been a mega hassle. I'm paying £85 for life and that's for the top package in everything and the extra box, I don't know if it's worth me trying to get this lot for any less, I doubt they would reduce it as it's a bundled cheap package as it is. Anyone else got the VIP package and managed to get a reduced amount?0

Called them yesterday as I was paying £25 for b/band + £11 for phone + TV package, total £56/57 per month plus phone calls. Nice lady said "That sounds a lot, let's see what we can do" and that was without prompting!! I said that their "3 for £30" package was more or less what I had, she agreed and that was that, done and dusted!! £25/month reduction with no prompting and only a 3 minute wait to answer. Well pleased.0

It could not be simpler. Had to phone Virgin about a billing query (which was sorted very quickly) and the person I spoke to said I was paying too much and they could give me a better deal. Didn't even have to ask.
Had Phone (talk unlimited), XL TV, Sky Sports & Movies, Baby TV, Additional box and 4mb broadband at a cost of £112.50 per month. What I now have is the VIP package which gives me everything I had before PLUS, V+ box (record 2 channels, watch a third), Talk Mobile & International and 10Mb broadband all for £85 per month. A saving of £27.50 for a 5 minute phone call. Even if you dont miss Sky One etc give them a call and ask them to check if you are on the best package.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
