Only joined Virgin Media for Sky? Blag some extra channels for the loss

I'm just after phoning the retentions dept and spoke to a very helpful guy called Gary. I told him of the offer in the Daily Mail today which offered Sky sports, Broadband @ 2Mb and phone with evening and weekend calls for £37.00 per month. You would also have have had to pay £10.50 per month to BT for line rental on top of this so the total would have been £47.50 per month.
The guy I was speaking with had a look at what he could do and was able to offer me the following:
XL TV inc Sky sports and movies
XL phone inc Voice mail
M Broadband (2Mb)
All this for £47.45 per month. I'm well impressed.0 -
I complained to Virgin before the lost of Sky channels after my contract expired
I got half price on my 2mb broadband, hallf price on my XL TV package and a free Extra set top box... instead of £75 i pay £45 (including Sky movies package)a month not bad eh?0 -
I have just had a successful phone call to Virgin. I was on
BB - M
TV - L
Phone - L
Caller display
£37.25 (already had £10 discount apparently)
Said thought Sky could give me better offer but was only really after upgrading phone to unlimited calls 24/7. Got a very nice lady who did poit out their BB was better than Sky's so had to go along with story.
Ended up with
BB - M
TV - XL
Phone - XL
Free caller display
£34.95 :j
So thank you to Martin for this thread and to all of you for replying cause otherwise I would have put up with what we've got :beer:0 -
For the last few years, even with NTL, we were getting reduced rates each time we threatened to switch but I must say, losing Sky TV is NO LOSS in our household. No more blooming Simpsons every day!!! DH is distraught but hey THANK YOU RICHARD B!0

I am now paying £36 pcm for TV XL, Broadband L and phone (talk evenings and weekends)
Go for it1

I actually fully support Virgin Media's response to Sky.... but as a money saver I'm not going to try for a discount
I'm on XL TV, XL Broadband & Phone (although we hardly use that). Managed to get £20.50 per month knocked off and free call waiting/caller ID
The guy said they have had the busiest day for months... I wonder if that was because of the Money Tips E-mail this morning0 -

Just called Virgin Media! Finally got through after holding for about 20 mins!! Spoke to a lovely northern lass who was very helpful. I did my research and had a the net on with a sky page so I could see all the prices as I chatted to her. I told her I want to leave, missing Sky one and the Simpsons blah blah blah!! And that I could get what I get with Virgin from Sky for half the price, and I would like to cancel RIGHT NOW! WOAH WOAH sir!!! she screamed!! Let see what we can do for you!!
I was paying £56.50 for:
XL TV
Long weekend/evening phone package
2mb Broardband
After a quick chat I'm now getting all of the above plus Unlimited calls for £34.95
I agreed to that then I quickly remembered that they offer a Virgin+ box thing to record TV and stuff, so I said actually I wont take up the offer and i'm still going to go with sky as they have the Sky+ box thing. WOAH WOAH!!! she said!! I quoted they £20 one off charge and £10 per month Sky offers, The kind northern lass offered me a FREE Virgin+ box, Free instillation and a £10 per month charge! I almost bit her hand off!!!
I never really watched Sky one, and couldn't tell you where those other channels lived so I'm well up on the deal and very very happy!!!
Thanks guys!!!! I love this site/forum!!!

but the V+ is free anyway, and if you have the other box moved, the installation is free and it's £10 per month. So they haven't really given you anything on that bit....0 -
we also rang VM and said we was not happy with losing sky one and they upgraded our tv from the very basic channels to the XL size. they also offered us a upgrade on our broadband from 2mb to 4mb for a extra £2 a month as far as we were told this was permanment. we are quite pleased with this0
