The only thing I miss about losing Sky One etc is Lost. After reading this post I decided to call Virgin and tell them I was thinking of leaving them to go to Sky. (I have no intention of doing this). I was only on hold for 10 mins(not bad having read the amount of time sonme people have been waiting). I am currently paying £35 a month.
£14.00 M broadband
£10.50 M Phone
£10.50 L TV
The lady on the other end offered me an upgrade to xl tv or £24.00 a month(£11 reduction) if I kept what I had. I said that £24 was fine and thanked her very much for her time. Result!:happylove Sammy0 -
I called VM to downgrade my TV package as I could no longer watch my favourite programmes on Sky one and two. Instead, I was offered to keep my existing bundle of XL tv, additional box, broadband M and upgraded me to phone L. I was paying £66/month, now will be paying £44! And all this without begging! Very pleasant young lady who also mentioned that they were trying to reach a deal with Sky to get our programmes back! Excellent service!:T0

I contacted Virgin Media today and complained about the disappointment with losing the sky channels and have been offered £10.50 a month for life off my bill - as I already have a good deal with them that suits me fine... Thanks for yet another great Tip Martin :j0

I rang them yesterday after trying to get free installation and Sky+ box before cancelling my Virgin Media account. Funnily enough, Sky weren't doing that deal anymore and offered me £30 of M&S vouchers instead  So, as I was already on XL package with 4Mb BB and Talk Unlimited, "all" they could offer me was a discount of £14. :j I now pay £54.50 XL TV, 4Mb BB, phone line (Talk Unlimited), TV Drive box and extra set top box in my bedroom.
Oh and that's for as long as I have my account with them, not for a limited period.0 -
Just tried to get some extra channels out of VM in place of lost Sky channels but no luck. The girl on the line (and it has taken me a week to get through) said that we have to be patient and they are still negotiating with Sky; they expect to have some news within 2 weeks. So I was not offered anything in the meantime.
Sandy, ring them back. Over the past 2 years, I've rung them about 4 times to complain about their service (been with them for 8 years) and if I get no joy I ring them back and say I've thought about what they've said and want to cancel. They usuaooy put you through to the disconnection department who ask you why you want to cancel and they will try and sort out a deal for you.
For anyone who has only just joined Virgin Media on a 12 month contract, they aren't insisting you honour that.
"Can I cancel my contract?
At Virgin Media we're all about being honest and doing the right thing.
So, even if we've done everything we can to persuade our TV customers to stay, and they still want to disconnect their TV service, then we're not going to hold them to their 12 month contract. We'll allow them to cancel at any time up to the end of March although they need to give us 30 days notice. This commitment will not impact our contractual rights to recover any outstanding arrears owing at the time of cancellation."0 -
I rang today after reading some of these replies and im a bit rubbish at negotiating but i basically said that sky had offered me a better deal ( i didnt really have any intention of cancelling) but the lovely lady - anita. Said she would cut down the price of my package for life from £55 to £34.50, plus upgrade my phone package which was neither here nor there as i barely use it, but a saving is a saving and i am v chuffed!0

Virgin Media came up with the goodss. They have now upgraded me to the XL tv package for six months; that's on top of the reduction in monthly charges (for 12 months) to match Skys latest offers. Didn't even have to haggle!!!!0

HI, I am an old NTL customer; now a new virgin media customer (without sky channels). I have just been upgraded. I did exactly what Martin said. After hanging on the phone for ages I was polite and told the agent that was a serious sky news watcher. I was pleased to be upgrade from a base package to 2mb broadband and every channel apart from Movies and sports. I pay £30 a month for a phone, broardband and more channels than I new existed. Thanks Martin0
