  • Hi Forum,

I'm having VIP £85 installed next week and was just wondering - in light of the Sky/VM tussle over Sky1,2,3 and SportsNews - if anyone had successfully wangled a free "sim only" £10/month from VM?

    ATB,
    Rowland.

Called virgin yesterday to downgrade my Large tv package to medium.
If you have a phone line with virgin the medium package is free.
The minute I said I wanted to downgrade I was offered a new package.
I received the same offer as a new customer £30 a month for large tv package, phone, plus I got my internet connection upgraded. That means I've made a saving of £10.50 each month.

If anyone's interested Virgin have said they will have the present series of Lost on their own channel in August.

    Don't line Sky's pockets.

  • I rang VM today and after holding for about 30 mins got through. Initially was only offered discounts on taking out additional packages like broadband or other channels. Tried to haggle for free movies and sports, they couldn't do that but would discount it.

I then confirmed i was just going to transfer to SKY. He asked for a contact number so he could go away and see what he could do. Within 20 mins he called back and i have had my phone and tv package i was paying £20 for decreased to £11.25 for the first 3 months and £16.75 for the second 3 months. It goes some way to making up for loosing SKY at least. One interesting thing he did say was that they are still in negotiations with SKY apparrently and hoping to resolve it by the end of the month - although this might just be a line to get people to stay.

    Good luck.
  • I took your tip and rang up and said i was unhappy about not having sky channels and without even asking i was given the next 3 months free tv
    a saving of £61.50

OK, 39mins on hold, 2 useless people first but the 3rd guy was really helpful.

I'm on "Telewests supreme TV" - roughly the XL package and they reduced it by £9 a month without any hassle.

I don't have broadband or phone so I'm happy with that deal

I phoned them last week as I pay £60 per month for Talk evenings & weekends, XL TV, L Broadband & V+ box. I managed to get the TV free for 3 months and half price phone for three months. I thought this was fine but I phoned up again yesterday and managed to get the price dropped to £51.90 permanently along with Talk unlimited, I don't think I've done too bad. It goes to show that if your not happy first time round try again (I'm tempted to try again but I don't really want to push my luck :) )
  • Just tried to get some extra channels out of VM in place of lost Sky channels but no luck. The girl on the line (and it has taken me a week to get through) said that we have to be patient and they are still negotiating with Sky; they expect to have some news within 2 weeks. So I was not offered anything in the meantime.

Read all the other replies and thought I'd give it a go. Very happy with my Virgin Media service and would refuse to go back to Sky (was a previous customer a few years back and wasn't happy with the service or the monopoly they had on programs).

I currently had the basic TV package, 2mb Broadband, & telephone service with International calling option. Spoke to a very nice guy called Bobby in Customer Services and said although I understood what had happened between Virgin & Sky, & how I didn't agree with Sky, I was disapointed that we no longer had the Sky channels (one of my best friends is a newsreader for Sky so i like to tune in occasionally to see her!). I asked what incentive he could offer to get me to stay. He had a look into my account and said he could upgrade my TV package to the L package, and do it for £24 a month, which effectively meant I would be saving £12 a month! So obviously going for that! So a massive result. Not only more channels to choose from, but a monthly bill reduction too! The £12 we've saved we may put towards getting the V+ service installed as wont cost anymore than we're currently paying!

Thanks for the tip Martin, and for all the other replies making me ring up!
  • Read the replies on here and thought I'd give it a go as I don't fancy having a dish on the side of my house from Sky or getting a BT line installed for £100!

I was paying £38 a month for size L TV, size M phone (free weekends) and size L broadband (4MB)

Was on hold for about 20 minutes but eventually got through to a very helpful guy and got upgraded to XL TV, L phone (free evening and weekends) and 10MB XL broadband all for £35 - permanently!

On top of this I've got all of next month FOC as a thank you for staying with Virgin.

Incredibly pleased and it's likely they will get Lost and 24 (the only reasons I watched sky one) on their Virgin Central channel very soon
