  • I've just spoken to a really pleasant bloke called Martin in Customer Relations. I was upgraded to XL TV without even really trying! That means I get more channels for £5 a month less than we were already paying! :T

Now I just have to get to the back of the queue in our house so I can watch the extra channels

Be nice to the person you speak to!

Thanks Martin, and all those people whose messages I've read :money:

i just £8.50 saving. was paying £25 broadband and around £23 for phone/tv. Offered me another £8.50 discount on the £8 I already had from last year and said this would continue even if they get the channels back.

Was also told that they were approaching production company's to buy back some of the sky channels but sky aren't making it easy.

After hanging on the phone for AGES finally got through to a nice chap called Andy. No need for confrontation - just said it looked like Sky was a more alternative option and what could they offer as compensation to make me want to stay. Instantly offered XL TV, broadband upgrade and a discount on what I'm currently paying.
I don't always open the moneysavingexpert emails - am so glad I did on this occasion! Thanks Martin!

  • after I held for over an hour, she could only offer me £5 per month discount on the basic package. That's still £60 a year I'm saving, and will try and negotiate for more when my contract is up for renewal next month.

Thought about it for a while, then realised £26 is what Skye are offering for their package, so phoned again the following night. VM told me, aah but Skye don't mention they will still charge you another £11 for your phone line! (Haven't checked that out yet), but would only upgrade my bb to 2meg as an incentive for staying (over and above the £5 discount originally offered).

But he did mention that perhaps Pay Per View movies would be free soon, until the Skye business has been resolved. ;)
  • Had all sorts of hassle getting through this week, and tried every trick in the book from getting on via the 'I'm moving house' option to anything else I could think of. Eventually got connected and explained that we've been paying over £70 monthly via NTL for ...

    4mb broadband (L)
    Talk Unlimited phone (XL)
    TV package (XL)

... and I was definitely thinking of moving to Sky, especially as a) we'd been paying 24.99 for broadband when I'd rung last year and was told it would be reduced by half (they never did) and b) as some Sky channels had since disappeared

Initially was offered 2mb broadband and the others the same, with my bill reduced to £35. Stuck to my guns and said that would only be acceptable if broadband was pegged at 4mb. After a bit of toing and froing, they agreed and price is fixed for 12 months. They said I should come back at that point for another deal.

Very happy with deal - it takes persistence but it's worth it!:j
  • Thanks to your advice I eventually got through on the customer number and received a £10 discount for 6 months.

Contacted Virgin. Had a long wait but it's a free call! Had the cost of my package reduced and received Sky Films free for ever even if the situation changes and Sky rethinks its position and allows back those programmes it has taken away. Thanks for the advice. It cetainly paid off.
  • Hi its my first post so please be gentle with me, but after reading this thread this morning i rang virgin media and after being placed on hold i had a moan that i felt my custom wasnt appreciated and wanted to disconnect, and they have reduced my bill by over 30 a month, so well worth a try,

    many thanks
