    Hi

I am coming to the end of a six month discountof £10 now £20 on my TV family package with NTL, now Virgin.
What I want to know has anyone been cheeky enough to goback and ask for a further discount or extend this £20 for a further 6 months?
    Cheers
    Steve

Dont be afraid Steve, Yes you should be cheeky. I have been on a three month price drop and kept going back for more every 6 month or so
and I have been doing it for around 2 years.
I do think that if VM was to fold that S*Y would be charging twice as much so I dont blaim Branson for putting up a fight.

I called the pubic relations desk at virgin media, said that i was not happy with the sky situation and threatened to leave! ( i didn't tell them that it would cost a fortune to get connected to BT, as i have no line!), we are on The M phone package, the M broadband and XL for TV with a V plus box and an extra box in another room, cost £54 a month. I now pay £34.50 a month which is on going! I was polite with the Call centre guy, i even had a bit of a joke with him! well worth hanging on the phone for 44 minutes until the answered!

Am on the same package, but there was no way that they were going to get it down to £34.50.

I called and the operator said that I was already getting a deal (£5 off as a 'customer goodwill'). I asked to be put to cancellations. The battery on my handset died on me!!

So, I called again, and this time got through to someone else (first person was Scottish). I said that I am one of the many people that are missing sky, and wanted to know what they would do about it (all in a jovial manner)

I got it reduced to £43.50 (which is £10.50pcm less), and as I was 'havin a laff' with the operator, she offered free movies & sky sports for 1 month.

I asked her if she would do this for any longer?

She said that I can ring back in a month and ask again.

I said, how about I get it for 2 months as I can't bear to listen to that awful muzak.

    Done.

SO - be patient and if you don't succeed at first, try again .... :money:

  • A big thankyou for spreading the word about this. just had my freeview telly upgraded to proper channels for 6 months! and if the situation with sky is still not sorted by then i'll get some other form of compensation.
  • It was worth the call. Got £9 off for six months (TV XL, the old NTL Family Pack for free). I finally got through by selecting option 2 "Upgrade your package", answered in under a minute, rather than option 4 "Moving House/Thinking of leaving Virgin Media" - on hold for 20 minutes before giving up or cut off.

In Jan I rang up NTL/Virgin Media told them I wanted to cancel and got a reduction of £400 for the year. Tonight I rang them again and said when is Sky coming back. Told them I was nt happy. Long and the short of it I got a further £10.50 reduction for the next 6 months. The advisor told me to ring back at the end of the month because there maybe further offers available. God I love this site!!!

    Hello everyone

I am in Northern Ireland and have been with Ntl now Virgin, since 1998.

We are currently paying £34.50 for the 3p Plan

    Broadband Size: M: 2MB £18.00
TV and Telephone Service:£16.50 This is the Mid Pack (I think its the basic package)

Anyway, our phone calls are with Talk Talk ( I think they are OK ) and our line Rental is with BT (36.75 (every 3 months)

So what do you think I might get offered if I ring as we are really annoyed about Sky ( everyone is missing Lost, Stargate etc )

Also in all these years we have been very loyal customers and never had a discount.

    Thanks

    Fiona

I just rang VM and got through to what seems like an Indian call centre after 30 minutes on hold, and the only offer they would make me was to increase my TV package from large to extra large.

I don’t watch most of the channels I have right now so why would I want more, after I pointed this out to them I was told that this was the only deal then had on offer, I then stressed that I had been a loyal customer with Telewest for over ten years and still got nowhere!

Am I calling the right number?

    I've just seen this.

In the call centre industry, there is such a thing as a 'distress' package. This is when an internal call centre can't cope with the volume of calls because of some kind of emergency or announcement so 'emergency outsourcing' is set up very quickly. My understanding is that all VM call centres are in the UK, so if you're getting through to an indian call centre, you'll be through to someone who is not trained in any depth. They're given a script and some max discounts or offers and they can't budge from that no matter what. And they don't care whether you're a loyal customer or not because they don't work for VM.

I suggest that if you get through to an Indian call centre you don't even bother discussing it, you just end the call and try again another time. When you get through to the in-house call centre, they will be able to make you much better deals.

Relies on using 150 so you don't get stung for the on hold time, of course.

I currently pay £11 for the phone with the freeview package and £25 of the size L Broadband package, I didn't manage to get the price down but after a bit of discussion managed to get the size L TV package added for life.
