  • Having read your advice about claimimg a discount to make up for the loss of Sky 1 etc I rang 150 and they agreed to give me a 50% discount on my total bill for the next 6 months. I have TV, Broadband ,Telephone and mobile with Virgin. They also said that they were if no success in getting back the Sky channels going to put the missing programs on a channel of thir own. I also told them that I had been interviwed on BBC Radio Solent about wanting to leave Virgin as I had lost Sky 1 /2 and that they would be calling me back. I wonder if this made any difference

Hi, I rang Virgin Media today because my phone bill is quite high (had a package from NTL previously). I said that I knew it was my own fault because it was me that used the phone (!) but just wondered if they could help. Next thing I know is that I've got all free calls (was previously weekends only) for six months - didn't even ask for any freebies, wasn't even complaining !!

I just rang VM and got through to what seems like an Indian call centre after 30 minutes on hold, and the only offer they would make me was to increase my TV package from large to extra large.

I don’t watch most of the channels I have right now so why would I want more, after I pointed this out to them I was told that this was the only deal then had on offer, I then stressed that I had been a loyal customer with Telewest for over ten years and still got nowhere!

Am I calling the right number?

Result!! Without any effort whatsoever I was offered upgrade to XL tv for £30/month instead of the £34.50 we are paying now! Can't complain at that. The 35 minute hold was worth it.

    Got same package as Sarah

Basic TV package (somewhere between an M and an L)..5.50

    2mb BB ...18.00

    Line rental...11.00

I waited for 61 minutes and 33 seconds (put on the footie and the phone on loudspeaker) and managed to luckily get through (they shut at 8 and were finishing off the pipeline calls).

I got upgraded to the L TV package and price reduced from £34.50 to £30...this is the same as what new customers can get (3 for 30) so they arent really losing out and I think I should have been entitled to that at least anyway.

Generally it seems that we are all getting different deals depending on who we talk to but the bigger your package (ooh err!) the better the discount.

This deal is forever not just 6 months...

Switched to sky last night rang customer services and selected ntl/telewest customer from automated phone system and got a deal, got a Sky plus box which doesnt cost any extra a month to run unlike VM for £49.99 usually (£99) and free installation usually (£60) and gettin it installed in a week . Rang VM customer services (30 mins on hold) and cancelled with them.
Just a note VM are waiving the minimum 12 month contract if you cancel before end of march.

Hi,I was reading all the threads about virgin this morning and i thought i would give them a call as we watch sky 1 all the time or used to.I rang and got a young woman who was not very helpful and all she could offer me was xl tv for 6 month so i said i would think about it and put the phone down. I then called to cancel and said i did not want to cancel but other half was upset that we had lost sky 1 the chap was very nice and said that he was sure he could find me a deal. We have phone £11.50 broadband £25.00 tv £11.00 and he offered me exl tv plus broadband and phone for £37.00 for life and then he said for an extra £4.50 on top of what we pay now we could have sports and films for 12 month so for £52 we have got everything well pleased with that. Thanks everyone Rita.
  • Just got off the phone from Virgin Media, (press the button to say youre leaving and only wait a minute to speak to an advisor) old bill £45 = limited phone use, broadband, and basic television. New package £34-95 = 01/02 numbers anytime up to one hour, broadband, and 50 odd more TV channels. A saving £10-05p a month add this to the £230-70p i got back from the Lloyds TSB last month from my mortgage settlement charges and all thanks to Martin.:j
