Only joined Virgin Media for Sky? Blag some extra channels for the loss

Hi,
I just called Virgin and asked for either a discount or an upgrade to make up for losing several channels. They offered me the top package half price for six months (no thanks!) but I accepted a free upgrade to ne medium package for 1 month, along with a refund of the charge free evening and weekend calls for three months. This is equivalent to £31.50. I said that I would call back in a month if the Sky problem hadn't been sorted by then and negotiate some more.
They were very sympathetic and helpful which makes a nice change these days.0 -
2mb Broadband
TV - Base Pack (Second top package)
Telephone
£21 for 12 months
I'm not bragging, but that's what you should be aiming for.
Fair Price for a Fair Service and all its problems.
I can typically call up, and get friends and family £26 All in.
Good Luck.
O Yeh - forget trying to get through on the cancel line after 3pm

I have Virgin's basic TV package, 2mb Broadband and basic phoneline.
Was paying £25.75 for this per month (Already had a phone line discount)
Just called and they've upgraded my phone to anytime calls package and cut my monthly bill to £18.36 per month.
Not bad for unlimited calls, basic TV & BB! :j Plus the Virgin guy was really nice & helpful. I was impressed.
Thanks Martin.
P.s. They did offer me top tv package, 2mb BB, and unlimited landline calls for £34 per month, but i dont watch much TV and I cant really pay the extra every month. Good deal if you want it though? My sister was offered the same after a bit of haggling."I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again."

I subscribe to Virgin Media's TV Family Pack & Telephone charging £31.50 a month (and on top of that I get broadband free courtesy of a special New Year offer packaged with a £15-a-month mobile contract from Virgin Mobile).
Shortly after Sky withdrew its channels from Virgin's (NTL's) cable channels I saw an item on BBC2's 'Working Lunch' quoting a customer as saying he obtained a monthly £8.50 discount by complaining to Virgin Media.
On the same day I 'phoned Virgin Media (dialing 150 from a Virgin Media 'phone to avoid their premium 'phone numbers), and was offered half-price Family Pack per month. I have yet to receive a bill reflecting this discount, but it seems to me that this is worth more than £8.50 per month (and not, I believe, for a limited period only).
Not bad value, I thought!
And has anybody noticed that when NTL morphosed into Virgin Media the prices went up?!0 -
Just on hold now...
we currently have telephone £11, starter tv £5.50, and Broadband M £18.00.
Lets see what they can do for me!

Called up from work, waited 30 minutes to speak to someone, then politely pointed out that I wished to drop their service as I had lost channels when Telewest/NTL merged, and had lost more now
The man at the other end of the phone asked why and I pointed out that we watched 24 regularly. He explained that Lost was going to be put on their on-demand service but didn't know about 24, so would I like £30 credit to go buy the box set when it comes out, plus a free upgrade from the L to the XL channel package for 6 months?
Thank you very much, I said
So, be polite but firm and have your reasons ready, they are willing to talk!

Thanks everyone for your posts. Just phoned VM and asked what compensation they would offer me for losing sky channels and was told they would take £10.50 off a month for 6 months. Wouldn't do it for any longer but said that they would either give me the same offer then or might have a better deal to offer me. A result, bill down from £45.50 to £35 for 2M broadband, XL TV and phone with free evening and weekend local and national calls. Very happy now.0

My daughter is with virgin?telewest and lost some of the channels. She complained nicely today and is now getting 6 months free upgrade and they are hoping to resolve the lost channel problem. Excellent result.:T0

Result!! Without any effort whatsoever I was offered upgrade to XL tv for £30/month instead of the £34.50 we are paying now! Can't complain at that. The 35 minute hold was worth it.
