I work for the Virgin Mobile side of Virgin Media and all i can say is if your nice to the person who works at VM you will get alot more.

I know if i have a customer who is shouting at swearing at me they dont put me in the best mood to help them in fact if they continue to swear we are within out right to end the call.

Yet if a customer is polite and nice I will go out of my way to help them every way that I can.

So please remember we are all Human beings that work at VM and if you treat us like one then we will respect that and help you out.
Can we ask to speak to you??? I do believe to be polite and understand talking in a humanly way, but, sometimes the operators on customer services treat you without any disregard at all, constantly patronising and refusing to give you what you paid for, then, as we are human too... we loose it!. Could list you a few...!regards

Finally! Got through to a nice girl in customer relations, this is the department you need to speak to get deals by the way. She asked me to say that. So they've downgraded me to the free TV package immediately so I get that plus my phone line and broadband for £19.95, starting immediately. The only channels I lose are UK Gold. The phone line comes with free local and national evening calls, discounts on international and mobile calls. AND they offered to send an engineer round to move my cable box upstairs, free! So for the same as I was paying before, £35, I will shortly have a Sky Box downstairs with more channels than I got on VM anyway, a cable box upstairs so I can still use services like Teleport Replay (great for missed episodes of Eastenders!), phone and broadband. Result there for perseverance. Now if I can only get that bl**dy music out of my head!

Just called Virgin Media to get a discount on my services in light of losing Sky One etc - didn't even have to really try too hard - they reduced my monthly fee from £35 to £20 for six months.

Thank you Martin for highlighting this.
    They call me Mr Pig!

I must be doing something wrong. Called the 0800 number and selected 3 ("if you are thinking of leaving Virgin Media") only to have a machine tell me that due to them being unusually busy, I should call back later. It doesnt even allow me to wait on the line!!!

Well done to all who got good deals - I wonder if I am just too late!!

I phoned Virgin Media on the same day I received the email notifying me of the loss of Sky One. Although I wasn't too concerned about losing this channel, as I don't watch Lost and 24, I thought I could use this to my advantage.

Upshot of my very long phone conversation with a very helpful customer staff memeber was:

    Original package -

    Telephone Line Rental - £11.00
Talk Evenings and Weekends - £5.50
    XL Tv - £20.50
    L Broadband - £25.00

TOTAL COST PER MONTH - £62.00

    New package offer -

Telephone Line Rental, Talk Evenings and Weekends, XL Tv, L Broadband plus new V+ Box and redirect old box up to bedroom.

TOTAL COST PER MONTH - £47.00

This cost is for as long as I stay with VM and not a special offer for a period of 6 months or whatever.

The V+ box works extremely well (so far!) and the video recorder will now be disconnected and maybe saving a little on electricity.

It took a little while to get down to this price, but I just kept on saying that I had no choice but to cancel all my services with them though I didn't really want to and we eventually got down to the right kind of price for me.
  • :T Brilliant advice,:T I phoned and asked nicely what the current situation was. Only needed to ask if they had plans to reduce my bill or offer me an alternative and they immediately offered me 6 months upgrade. When the advisor went to alter my package she was able to upgrade for life at no additional cost!:T

I just called Virgin and spoke to a lovely lady called Gemma.
    I was on
    tv - L
    Phone - L
    Broadband - 2meg
    and paying £37 pm

I only had to say that i was considering moving to sky and she offered me the following deal
    Tv -XL
    Phone - XL
Broadband - still 2 meg but thats fine for me
    All for £34.95pm for life!!!!
I had to wait on the phone for about 15 minutes and Gemma said this and several other deals are being offered as a matter of course to try and retain customers....

I recently switched from Telewest to BT and Sky - partly because I live in an old analogue cable area and, despite constant promises over the last 3 years that they would be upgrading to digital “imminently” there was no sign that it was ever going to happen – I pay £10.75 for BT line rental (paperless billing); £5 for unlimited calls (24/7) with SKY; £15 for 2 mix SKY package £0 for excellent SKY 2mb broadband service (plus initial £40 activation fee). Like many others, I am not a great fan of Rupert Murdoch, but I have also been unimpressed with the service provided by Telewest (VM). I have not made any big effort to compare what I am paying with other options but surely the BT/SKY combination takes some beating!?

I think I may ask my other half to ring again this evening. Shift change etc. May have more luck.
