just to diversify slightly - if, like me you only watched sky for lost - its on RTE2 on a monday night which i get as part of my original NTL package. and its running in tandem with sky so try to negotiate it as part of any future deal.

    What channel is RTE2 please?

    Thanks

Wow, you obviously have some serious hard core negotiating skills - what's your secret? That's the best deal I've heard of!!!!!!!!! :T
You just have to say you want to leave so you get through to the disconnections department. They will off the world for you to stay. As I say, it is a pain having to ring every 3-6 months but I just set an organiser reminder when the new deal is about to expire then call again. I don't have any TV package as I find that freeview offers all the decent channels anyway (box is only £20 if you look these days).
  • I was on the Telewest basic TV package with landline and 4mb broadband included. I called Virgin Media as suggested and indicated that I was tempted to switch to another provider unless they were prepared to make me a better offer.

Immediately the lovely lady on the end of the line offered to upgrade my TV package to "L" and downgrade my broadband connection to 2mb (which is perfectly good enough for me), reducing my monthly bill from £45 to £30 - saving me £180 a year while giving me more channels! Marvellous :j

I wasn't best pleased with the broadband downgrade, but considering I was getting a much lower price - and extra channels indefinitely (not just for six months), I felt it was a small price to pay.

The weird thing is I seem to have slightly more channels than the "L" package listing on the website, although still not as much as "XL". For example, I've got "MTV Hits", "VH1 Classic" and "Jetix" which are only on XL... Its all good :rotfl:
  • I am on the old Analogue TV package with phone and broadband. I was told they could do nothing for me as all the discounts they could offer were from Digital TV. I asked if they could do anything with the phone or braodband as an incentive to make me stay. I was told "no". I said I would be moving to Sky and he said "would you like me to book the disconnection now ?"
  • thanks again Martin. Have been with NTL since they started (forgot how many years ago), My husband is the one missing out since he is a Sky One fanatic. will phone and let you know what they say. Regards Y.

Agree to the disconnection anyway then. They will then offer a discount or ring you a week or so before the actual disconnection and make you a great deal. If all else fails and they actually disconnect you then just re-join selecting a great new customer digital deal. Can't lose really.

It has been known from many companies, that when they tell you to put you through to 'disconections', they pass you through to 'customer's retention' :money: where they will try their best not to let you go!.:T but be carefull if you don't want to be disconected; play to the end. You can say you are going to think about it,;) if they go through to disconections?. regards. I will be ringing them in a minute as well, since I pay average of £170 a month for all 3 services and Sky One was my husband's favorite channel. All the best. :money: :money:  o.
  • I have Just phoned virgin and told them I would like a deal of some sort to persuade me to stay with them, and it worked,£15 off my bill every month for six months.woo hoo

I am SICK TO DEATH of listening to their hold music! I hate Virgin with a passion now! Sky One is my favourite channel so there's no way I can be without it. I called VM at the start of the week and eventually got through to someone who said Virgin Central would still have The Simpsons and Lost on so no worries. This is of course a complete lie.

So I rang again, all the while having to listen to THAT music for 20 minutes plus. They offered me a free upgrade but all the additional 130 channels are of no interest to me. I don't have kids and don't watch music channels and the movie channels aren't included. So I told them to cancel and am having Sky installed on Saturday for £15. I have to keep my phone line and broadband with VM as I've had the broadband for less than 12 months.

Then it occurred to me that I could keep my VM box and just go on the free package. So far I've spent an hour on hold last night and about 30 minutes on hold today. Why can't these people staff their call centres a bit better!?

And what really annoys me is that I've been paying £35 for 3 when it seems that other people are paying £30.

    Just got through now...

We had Telewest Broadband, Talk and digital TV.

My other half rang a short while ago, spoke to a very curt, nay rude, operator, who point blank refused said "its tough, the terms and conditions state....etc".

So....is it worth swapping 'back' to Sky????
