    brill tip - thanks Martin!

You have just saved me 6 months cost of the basic tv package (I had no intention of cancelling really! Oops - feel a bit guilty now as I am actually glad that the Sky Sports News bit has gone - the other half can't bore me with it on Saturdays!!!).

Anybody know whether Sky are offering incentives for VM customers to migrate to Sky?

Hmm... well, they WERE. Two weeks ago we were offered a cracking deal which effectively gave us the TV and Sky+ we're already paying for (including sports and movies) PLUS broadband and unlimited phone for LESS than we're paying them at the moment.

Now Virgin have lost their channels they're distinctly less cooperative.

Called on Monday to ask what was the best deal they could do if we stayed with them for our current packagae, bearing in mind we've just finished a 12-month deal of 25% our bill.

Bottom line was... nothing. Guy was actually extremely unhelpful, began by telling me they could reduce our bill then did a complete U-turn.

Am going to switch everything to Virgin Media as soon as I can convince my OH he can live without Sky Sports News.

Come on Murdoch: introduce Virgin Sports News asap and your customers come flooding back!

Murdoch has held the government and peoples views in his hand for over 20 years now. He has controlled multi channel televison without any real competition all the time. This is the kick up the !!! that is needed in broadcasting. I actually thank him and Sky for being greedy. They say that Virgin are being tight for refusing to pay a penny per channel extra per day per customer. Virgin say on their phoneline that Sky have reneged on their original contract and doubled the price of these channels to something like £46 million. They are reporting them to OFCOM.

I resent the BBC too - £131 a year and I can only get channels 1-4. Channel 5 has never been sent down here. Similarly we cannot get freeview unless we pay around £150 to get an aerial upgrade. Why should we have to do all this? No I love this battle. Sky cannot beat my cable package of £30 a month for all three. Yes they may offer a 3 for £26 offer but that doesn't include the BT line rental of £11 a month. Sod off SKY!!

    Sorry for the ramble!!

Waited for about 20 mins in a queue
I spoke to a lovely guy named Alan.
I said that I thought I could get a better deal with Sky, and that since the takeover I wasn't even sure what packages I was on.

    I was on:

    M phone
M BB (or so I thought, was actually still on XL after an offer !!!)
    XL TV
    Sky Sports and Movies

    Now, I've got:

    XL Phone
    XL TV
    M BB
    Sky Sports and Movies

For £56.50, which is less than what I have been paying, my last bill was over £70!

    :j

I also got a £40 credit for broadband that I didnt ask for and a £10 credit for PremPlus which wasn't working on Saturaday! (we bought the season ticket last year so were annoyed that the screen was blank!).

I was quite happy with my package and don't mind that I wasn't offered any upgrades etc for 6 months etc. I have the Talk unlimited indefinitely so thats good. Plus the credits I managed to get as a result of my call are excellent.

    :T

I would advise people to check that their ' 6 months half price' deals etc are honoured on their bills and that when the time comes to downgrade it does get actioned. I just got a £40 credit as I downgraded but the person I spoke to made a mistake  !

I am hoping that VM/Sky will come to an agreement about Sky One, SSN etc as we are quite happy with VM, I miss Nip/Tuck and Bones and my BF missed Sky Sports News!

I've resulted to getting my friend to Sky+ my programmes for me to watch at her house haha!
  • We are still with Virgin analogue TV as the line-up suits us better (too much 'filler' on the digi channels), and we have a Virgin phone line too. Just called and threatened to cancel the telly and they offered us £10 off per month for the TV for six months, so it's now costing us just £3.50 p/m for the telly (with the channels we like!). A £60 saving -- better than a poke in the eye!

This is just the latest saving I've had thanks to MSE (including cheap calls to my partner's mobile while he was working abroad; switched to cheaper gas/electricity at the right time; and I took my car to the council garage for its MOT/annual service and it cost me less than half the amount it did the year before!) So a very big THANK YOU!! to MSE.

Sorry, but they aren't the same. Check the link.
  • As a current NTL customer, I pay for a service.

The service is being altered without my consent.

Isn't there a potential breach of contractual obligation on the part of Virgin/NTL??
  • Well after a lengthy tel call to a lovely lady from Manchester, now have:

    2mb broadband
    XL TV
    XL Phone
    V+ box
Existing V box moved to Dining Room (2 boxes)

for £36.45pm - no installation fees - 6 monthly contract - just phone up every 6 months to get the same deal or better.

Had to take a drop in B/B mb - but as I can only get 3.2mb here anyway - should not be too much of a difference?

The only programme we watch on Sky 1/2/3 is 'Battlestar Galactica' but can live without it just, although Sky News and Sports is a bit of a loss (but hey there are worse things in life).

As for Murdoch - up his as I would never get a Sky dish anyway because of his nonsense over ITV1 and other spoiling tactics.

Cheers to all that have contributed to this.
