re my last post, got through to vm again, told them i was narked at being cut off twice, so the op dealt with me this time, played on the old "i only wanted sky" routine, got told that it may come back and they were applying new channels etc etc, got offered my 2 for £20 deal for £12 for 6 months, kept pushing and ended up with upgraded tv pack for £2.50 less for next 6 months. was also told that i can ring up in 6 months and ask for the discounts to be reapplied, so in 6 months i'm gonna push for more discounts and see if i can get a BB upgrade and a tv upgrade, after all "if you dont ask, you dont get!":A R.I.P. Virgin say they are not going to hold anyone to the 12 month contract - I am cancelling on principal we only just switched from Sky to the £30 Telewest/Virgin package a month ago too. I am really peed off.
See http://allyours.virginmedia.com/fairplay/faq.html
They say:
"Can I cancel my contract?
At Virgin Media we're all about being honest and doing the right thing.
So, even if we've done everything we can to persuade our TV customers to stay, and they still want to disconnect their TV service, then we're not going to hold them to their 12 month contract. We'll allow them to cancel at any time up to the end of March although they need to give us 30 days notice. This commitment will not impact our contractual rights to recover any outstanding arrears owing at the time of cancellation. "
I have already sent a letter to cancel. They promised something they are not delivering to draw us in (I can't believe this was an overnight surprise to them). Then try to act as we if we are their pals - saying that they care about their customers, "please side with us against the nasty bullies". Well I am not their friend I am a paying customer and I owe them no loyalty - I will go to the company that offers me what I want.
When I called I was told there was no way I could cancel unless I paid £500+, as we have another 10months of the contract to run  Thank you for this, I'll be writing to them tomorrow. The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

Just phoned Virgin Media and stated that I was unhappy with the removal of channels. Now have TV Drive/V+ for free for the next 6 months - that will do nicely!0

We have a 3 for £30 broadband/TV/Phone package, plus Sky Sports premium previously with Telewest, now with Virgin.
Thus I read with interest about the possibility of some kind of payback from Virgin for the loss of the channels, and thought I would give it a try. I must have talked with a really nice man, because not only did he say that we could have a free upgrade from L to XL, but that we would also get £18.50 off per month. When I questioned how long this would be for, he advised me indefinitely. Naturally, I asked that he put this in writing and he confirmed that he would do this.
 Cheers guys!0 -
I lost, lost that's it. It's all I watched of the sky channels. I didn't like the way I was asked in there adds, to contact virgin to put pressure on them. Although when NTL turned in to virgin media my first bill went up by £1, that did get me running to the phone. I got the 3 for £30 offer and keep the XL TV package in the form of a £10 discount, for as long as I keep the package.
Go for a better deal ,but don't forget to let Sky know that they haven't won.
And thank Virgin Media for standing up to sky. If virgin do fall by the wayside what would sky charge without any competition?0 -
just to diversify slightly - if, like me you only watched sky for lost - its on RTE2 on a monday night which i get as part of my original NTL package. and its running in tandem with sky so try to negotiate it as part of any future deal.Regards

Hi,
Ive been with Telewest now VM for 8 years, I recently went over to their basic phone, tv broad band package £35 per month for limited period.
I contacted VM tonight and waited 20 mins to get through. Eventually spoke to a really freindly guy and told him i was just enquiring if i can cancel, as I heard I could before the end of March as I was no longed happy with the package with no sky 1 and no LOST!
He said rather than me cancel he would put me through to customer services so they can maybe help keep me.
Waited another 15 mins and got through to a really matter of fact blunt guy who said that due to virgin most probably going to get sky1 back he can't do anything for me. I asked if it was true what I had seen on watch dog that I can cancel and he said no the contract said 12 months and thats that... I said so can i take your name if your stating I cant cancel, he said then I could cancel, but only the tv part of the package... by this point I was more than upset... and asked to be put through to someone who would accept my cancellation as paying for a service I probably may get back sometime in the future? was not not what I had signed up for... he then said he'd put me through, but just cut me off !!!
I rang back and after another 20 mins got through to a really helpfull guy and gave him both barrells in a very civil way... he put me on hold after appologising for the last guy and saying he was wrong that i could cancel... he came back on and off with different packages, most of which meant me paying more but getting a bit more... in the end he came back and said due to the upset and having to hold for so long I could have the full phone package, full tv package and 4meg broadband for £41 per month. I asked how long for 6 months ? no he said indefinately as we want to keep your custom...
I accepted and hung up 20 mins later I have the full monty... my broadband is paid by work anyway
I think due to amount of calls they're having they are now fire fighting and trying to minamize the damage.
I will download Lost from the states with my 4 meg broadband0 -
Having been encouraged by my daughters boyfriends mother (who had secured half price TV for 6 months) I rang VM last night. After 30 minutes I finally got through to a helpful chap who first of all tried to reassure me that a lot was going on behind the scenes to get Sky back on to the network (nudge-nudge, wink-wink can't tell you what's going on etc etc). But with a bit of pushing I got a further £3-00 reduction off my total package. I now pay £37-00 for 4mb broadband, Evening and Weekends Telephone and XL television pack. I think this is a reasonable price - I had already negotiated some reduction before. Is it....?0

I work for the Virgin Mobile side of Virgin Media and all i can say is if your nice to the person who works at VM you will get alot more.
I know if i have a customer who is shouting at swearing at me they dont put me in the best mood to help them in fact if they continue to swear we are within out right to end the call.
Yet if a customer is polite and nice I will go out of my way to help them every way that I can.
So please remember we are all Human beings that work at VM and if you treat us like one then we will respect that and help you out.If this post helped you Please say thanks0
