Try this- Start menu > Type in regedit > Right click regedit and choose Run as adminstrator.

Regedit should now be open. Expand (press +) the following folders:- HKLM > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > NetworkList > Profiles.

Now under Profiles is the list of network profiles stored on your computer. Delete the ones you need to delete from here.

From the HJT 023 entries it looks like Intel Proset Wireless service is managing the wifi connections rather than the Windows Wireless Zero service. I believe its default behavior is to connect automatically to any unsecured wifi networks as soon as the service starts which would explain what the OP is seeing.

    If I'm correct options are:

    1. Use the Proset utility to exclude the unwanted BT networks. There's a link to an Intel user guide here and instructions on how to manage exclusions are on p.151.

    2. Again using the Proset utility, switch to Windows managing the wireless connection. Details on how to do this also in the user guide.

    3. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Proset Utility (but not the Intel wifi driver) and this will force Windows to manage the wireless connections.

spot- on advice from Tox there.....never use 3rd party wifi managers, they cause more hassle than soft mick :(

Hi Gunjack, just as I typed reply to post, the wifi went nuts, every tab I had open , saved went to welcome to BTFON hotspot, back to ether till I decide which of the 3 options to go for.
Bloody hotspots taking everything over, don,t know when it came about, I,m in the sticks as you know.
    Thanks again,

IMO skip options 1 and 2 and go straight for option 3.

We have 3 PCs in he house all wireless originally on a G router.

Our neighbour switched to BT home hub and it always swamped the PC closest to them. I tried many of the suggestions here with similar results to you.

In the end I replaced the G with an N along with new same make dongles. My thoughts been that the N router would be "stronger" anyway.

Disabled the previous router and drivers.

Loaded the drivers and followed the instructions to the word, including setting security. Problem resolved:j Sons laptop piggy backed ours no problem with the necessary security code.

I could still see the BT hub but it doesn't automatically take over.

Neighbour has now moved and BT Hub is removed:mad:
