    qUOTE=espresso;52891243]This would not happen if you had configured your wireless connection correctly.

    Right click on your wireless network icon, View available wireless networks, Change advanced settings, Wireless networks, Highlight your own network (SSID), Properties, Connection. Check "Connect when this network is in range". Click OK, Advanced, Make sure "Access Point (Infrastructure) Networks only" is selected, and "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks" is unchecked.[/QUOTE]Hi espresso, when I had new router, aol, technical team actually talked me through the set up regime for it. I just did as they instructed over phone..I know what you may think of aol/tt, but, at the time, I wasn,t sure , and am still not, whether my wifi card is iffy;hence ethernet cable in the lounge;
    I did as you say, unticked, box so it doesn,t connect to nearest, and it went straight to aolbb, this time;;but, there doesn,t appear to have advanced option;;to do the rest. this was not told to me by aol/tt, so obviously wasn,t advised right.
    The routers been in 6 months, this has just started .:beer:

    Hiya Joe cant say much about Aol But there not the bestest technicians or It experts In there worldwide call centres so no worry about that Ive taken some pictures to help u off my wireless server so in the next message just follow the links to photobucket

    I presume what is happening is from everyones advice followed even Gunjack whos a fantastic person: He helped me a few times with IT stuff in past anyway. I presume you are on windows xp/Vista or 7 yes, If you can let me know I can throw up some help for you on one of my machines via PHotobucket but it sounds like windows is having issues with your Router or wireless LAN card or your router is not configured the DNS or IP address proper to keep long term connections,

    cheers

    I have had this problem on one of our laptopfor some time now/ Whenever I turn it on and connect to the internet (via wifi) it picks up BTfon not our home router. None of the suggested alternatives to remove the BTfon connection, work. Well they may work briefly on this one occasion but next time I log on I have to go round the same loop again.

    Everytime I log on it automatically connects back to BT fon and I have to "trick it" into connecting to our home wifi. I have come to the conclusion that at some time in the past, a BT auto connect script was installed which runs when I click for internet connection, on this laptop. It does not happen on any of the oth laptops (we have three).

    I am d----ed if I can find out where the script is located, to remove it. I have asked here before, but no-one had any ideas, just keep bleating to follow the officially recommended procedures for removing it - they do not work.

    You won't find this imaginary script because it only exists in your head.

    The laptop will not connect to any wireless network unless you have configured it to allow this to happen.

    Your wireless connection is simply not configured correctly, so configure it correctly and stop bleating.

    Simples!

    Hi Guys , Sorry for not replying sooner.( hospital).
    Needless to say, not fixed, did as recommended, and finally , frustrated,put long,20 metre ethernet cable from router to laptop, as I did in the lounge, so I am no longer wireless.Instead of wifi dongle, as discussed prior with Gunjack:beer:
    BUT, according to control panel, I am still connecting to BTFON:??
    I have just had to connect to my aolbb=== connection.by changing in control panel
    I thought giving up on wifi would have solved it, I,ve even been Banking online , only since saturday gone, when I put long cable in., thinking I was on AOL/tt.
    The wifi icon tells me I,m on BTFON, but disregarded it, as thought cable overided it, only to check in connect to, that I,m connected to BTFON.
    presume although I,m connected cable, wifi is still showing connected to BTFON.Switched WIFI OFF, says connected to aol, plugging cable in pc disconnects wifi, but still displays wifi conection still as BTFON?
    doesn,t always go to btfon, but always have to check

    The problem lies in your laptop/pc not detecting your own network and then choosing to connect to a "preferred" network, this does include unsecured networks, such as BTFON.

    To stop it doing it, you need to (as already mentioned above) Click on the checkbox next to "Connect to a more preferred network if available." Make sure the box becomes unchecked.
    done that:beer:

    Hi Gunjack, confused about ccleaner startup section, how to post it.Got fed up with wifi, decided against dongle, and just put long ethernet.
    I,l will try and fathom out cc and post hijackthis, or with being ethernet, do you still want it ? Sorry for all the Aggro.
    Everytime I delete other connections, they return on next boot up.
    Ghanged to G only.

    Hi Esprsso, I followed your instructions to do so, and didn,t work, hence ethernet, so sorry if you think I,m bleating.Swiched wifi OFF, shows connected to aol.yet, when it,s switched on, and connected by ethernet, still shows BTFON, so either as you say router is not set up, but followed your insructions, or wifi card is kaput. would still like to set wifi up somehow.;;

    Open the Network and Sharing Centre from the toolbar. You are looking for "Manage Wireless Networks".

    It will show all the networks you have connected to.

    When you logon it will search the list looking for the first network set to automatic. If none are found it will offer the first which is set to manual.

    BTFon will show as "Connect automatically"; change to manual. Do this for all networks except your own.

    Select your own network and change to automatic. Then move it to the top of the list.

    Move BTFon to the bottom of the list.
