router locking on neighbours wifi

Hi guys, my pc, occassionally picks up next doors BT hub, not my router,theres must be stronger signal.used insidder, and thier signal does intersect mine.
would I be better off changing my router to G only,and not N ? it,s dual band.
I,ve tried changing channels, but 11 and 7, is best.
does locking onto G, make it single band, ie;;11 only.
I, am going to put long ethernet into conservatory, where it,s now situated, same as I did lounge, during winter;;but a bit more complicated running it;and do away with wifi .pain?cheers

    joe, use G only on your router and then pick the channel accordingly. If you go into control panel > network and sharing centre > manage wireless networks, delete all networks other than your own. You must have connected to your neighbour's at some point, and it'll be saved in there :)

    I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    update;; hi Gunjack, done as you said, re-booted and it still connected me to btfon. I had to go to connect to, and connect to mine..the only ones in network sharing, after removing others are mine, and my wifi printer.
    when I click on connect to, there are several, and although I am now G only, and 11, it went straight to btfon, and connected me to that??
    until I chaned to mine;;;

    hi flexrider, I,m not sure how I,m connecting to be honest.I just click on aol, my isp, and connect via them, or other browser, IE/chrome.
    The signal icon at bottom, notification area is telling me I,m getting auto btfon, unsecure signal,yet connect to in control panel says I,m connected to secure aolbb, which is mine;always presumed it was via router.

    Are you using a wired connection between PC and your modem router and you've also got wifi turned on and the PC is connecting to the BT Fon wireless network? Most likely you can either turn off wifi on your laptop if it's never used or make it go to your own preferred wireless network.

    Hi,

    you could try this,

    when you 'connect to', right click your network, then properties, hit the connections tab, make sure your network is ticked, and if 'connect to a more preferred network if available' is ticked, you could try un-ticking it.

    Hi, Thanks for reply;;
    No I am not ethernet connected now, I am wifi.in my conservatory..
    never had this problem on such a regular basis.AOL is isp/TT.
    New router and connected via it,wifi..Laptop has always picked aol up straight away, when I boot up, encrypted router.
    Now, for some reason, it auto, picks up BTFON, and won,t connect to aol.
    Now I have to connect via control panel, change connection, from BTFON to AOLBB.
    This has been happening for a few months, on/off, but now always picks up btfon first now. I was ethernet during winter/,cable, because lounge is a bad wifi spot, so put cable in, but now in conservatory, it,s wifi, signal from router good, so why does it auto lock on to btfon, not my router ?
    don,t know if bt have put a wifi spot by me, in the sticks, but pc should auto search for my isp shouldn,t it..Haven,t changed anything for years, other than letting tt have everthing .been with them years, no probs

    hi frugal, though of doing that yesterday when inside router followiing Gunjacks instructions, the box is ticked. I will untick it and try that..Doesn,t explain why it,s started doing it now though?:beer:

    This would not happen if you had configured your wireless connection correctly.

    Right click on your wireless network icon, View available wireless networks, Change advanced settings, Wireless networks, Highlight your own network (SSID), Properties, Connection. Check "Connect when this network is in range". Click OK, Advanced, Make sure "Access Point (Infrastructure) Networks only" is selected, and "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks" is unchecked.
