I posted about my cat with poorly tummy over a week ago, I took him off the wet and dry food and have fed him boiled rice and chicken and just plain chicken on its own for over a week now and he seemed to be much better, I decided last night to brave it and try him on Felix sachet, and no biscuits. Again this morning he has had diarrhoea. I'm so upset that I fed him Felix and have undone all my hard work and dont know what to do now.

I am at a loss of what to do about it now; when he was in the RSPCA he seemed to eat everything and anything (all the other cats dinners as well as his own!) And he seems so hungry!

I have booked a vets appointment for Saturday as that is the soonest I can get there, but I am not sure what to feed him now. I could put him back on the chicken although it is costing me a small fortune  or I could keep on with the Felix and see if he gets more used to it. What do you think?

    Help!

    Lou (and Rusty)

    Hi loopyloulou,

I've merged both your threads together so that readers can see what you've already tried.

I'm glad you've got a vets appointment.........hopefully they'll be able to make him feel better.

Did you change him over instantly?

You need to do it gradually... so 80% chicken rice, 20% felix for a few days then 60% chicken rice 40% felix for a few days. Don't move on to the next stage till his tummy has settled!

oops - yeah did do it instantly. these blinking animals are a nightmare!!
so i'll do chicken with a little bit of felix for the rest of the week, but think i will still take him to the vet for check up, just in case there is something more to it.

Im useless at these sort of things!!

The other slight problem i have with him is he seems to get "eye bogeys" in the corner of his eyes almost every day, i wipe them away with warm water on cotton pad, but they still appear daily! and sometimes up his nose - eww!

and i have ordered him a fountain as he jumps into the sink when i am trying to brush my teeth!! LOL

Definitely let vet have a look at his eyes :)

Some cats have stomachs of steel (like my fat one...) others just never get along with one food and changing to another might help. Some cats have food allergies with things like gluten so that coul dbe a cause. Have a look at tesco next time you're in and see if you can find a "sentitive" food and try that.
Or it could be medical :) A runny tummy needs to be kept an eye on however as it's easy for a little critter like a cat to get dehydrated. One rescue kitten I ended up looking after had worms and severe runny tumym and because he was sooo tiny I had to make sure he drank plenty and was checking him throughout the day to ensure he wasn't dehydrating. But we're talking a 7 week kitten... :)

Hi Loopyloulou, sorry to hear Rusty's still poorly. When our cat was poorly we gave him Almo cat food, as the ingredients are fairly minimal and good quality. Their website's here http://www.almodirect.co.uk/ you could email them and ask nicely for some samples? It's not very moneysaving, but it's got to be cheaper than fresh chicken! I think you can buy it slightly cheaper on https://www.zooplus.co.uk and they have a £3 discount at the moment.

  • Both of my cats had diarrhoea with Felix. I sent the packets off for analyzing but they came back and said that there was nothing wrong with the food. Perhaps there is something in the Felix that isnt present in other kinds of food?

I'd steer clear of the Felix if I were you. Try him with some iams perhaps?
