I'd add in boiled rice too. Our vet told us on no account to feed dried food of any kind to ours because middle-aged male cats upwards are prone to crystals in their urine which can kill them.

We have 7 cats and one(Livivngstone- my avaitar )has serious digestive problems we were told to starve him for 24 hours(NOT popular!) then to fed him plain boiled white rice and chicken. We were also advised to put him on to a dry diet (James Wellbeloved) and he hasn't looked back since. He really is a different cat. Rgarding your girl cat I would echo all the OP's she will be gfine. Enjoy your cats(only 5 more to go and you will be as mad as we are!)

    Hi
Have you read cat confidential it has a case study about introducing new cats to a household.

With regards to the dried food- there are 2 distinct schools of thought. We were first recommended to use dried food by a vet nearly 20 years ago. SInce then it has become common place at vets, but know there is a new school of thought about crystals and UTI's due to lack of liquids with dried foods.

It is very hard to know what to do for the best!

I am getting excited now as I am pretty certain my MAine Coon is going to have kittens in a few weeks - of topic, sorry!
  • My poor old cat had chronic diarrhoea for months and the only thing that helped her was priobiotic yogurt. Her tummy was just fine after a couple of teaspoonfuls twice a day. I think it was Activia she had, though she liked Yakult too. Hope this helps and that your wee girl stops being so scared of the interloper.

A word of warning about milk products - they can give a cat diarrhoea.

The cat drinking fountains are excellent for ensuring your cats (and dogs) don't develop renal problems with dry food. My friend who is a vet receommends using them for all cats who are on a complete dry diet as they encourage the cats to drink more as most prefer running water to a still bowl. We bought the CatIt drinking fountain for our little 'un and she loves it, which was a releif as she would rarely drink from a bowl and it got to the stage where we would have to leave a tap running to make sure she didn't drink from the toilet after someone flushed it!
I am sure time will help your cats to get aquainted, I mentioned in another thread about Feliway diffusers which can be useful for introducing cats and reducing stress in general (also recomended by vet friend). You can get them from Vetuk website
