girlie, I have been in this position several times. I have never paid them a penny and nothing ever happened to me.

What this ploy consists of is that the company mimics those who actually ARE entitled to fine you- like a Council. They use a well-worked out routine to convince you that they are real and that you have no choice but to pay.

In fact, the Law says that no private company (or individual) has the right to fine you. They know this full well, because it is the reason they threaten rather than act. If it were easy to collect off you legally, why would they go to all those lengths to frighten you?

Yes, they will raise the stakes, and try to scare you by getting a debt collection agency (powerless) to send you carefully worded letters.. followed by the phoney solicitor who isn't really a solicitor.

But what I guarantee from my own experience, and that of every person who I have advised here and elsewhere, is that when their routine of pre-set letters finishes they give up and go away.

Keep the faith and you win every time. I know it isn't easy the first time.

Beadle your post made me chuckle, please dont charge me for your advise!! Ha ha.
However I wish I had come on hear BEFORE writing to them! Reading all of the above does make myself and my mum feel alot stronger in ignoring them, I have told her to not even open the letters just write 'no longer at this address' and put it back in the mail box.
Its just reassurance that were not going to acrew even larger amounts by not paying.
It astounds me that in there response they ask for bank statements....!
Keep the reassuring responses coming, and let me know if your in the same position as us.

Please, please, reassure your Mum - I get it, honest (my Mum's exactly the same!) but if she doesn't believe all of the many (many!!) posters on here, then just show her the Watchdog clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAIcdi9niHA&feature=related
Maybe she'll believe Anne Robinson?? :)

Here, reassurance: Different companies, but it all operates in precisely the same manner.

girlie, read the last line of your original post,,,please help i dont want these robbers to win,,,,correct,,,as in ROBBERS,,,do not leave it to your mum to decide,, this is exactly how these ROBBERS work,, relying on vulnerablke folk to line their pockets,,this is a SCAM nothing else, dont know what more i can say to reassure you,,though DO expect letters in the form of threat o grams,,from roxburghe (we have zero powers) debt collectors,,and then graham ( i am a phoney/pretend solicitor)white,,they both share the same office and are both PART OF THE SCAM,,do not return to sender,,, BIN THEM and relax, all we are trying to do here is STOP you parting with your money needlessly, thats it then, off to watch city beat united now, though may get a ticket from p.e., only if my lucks in??????
  • OK girlie, now listen up. Me and my buddy Tonto got one of them pesky tickets slapped on my horse Silvers butt not to long ago. Now we ain't gonna pay them good for nothing cyotes one dime and if they don't stop trying to get money from people were gonna ride into town and and do some shooting and holloring. That should do it ! ;)

I'd love to see their letter. Can you post it, please?

Sorry - can't find the letter, been looking for it for a couple of days! It was along the lines of we will allow it this time, don't do it again. It was a couple of years ago before I knew what a rarity it was so I kepts it for a couple of months so they could not change their minds then I must have binned it rather than filing it!

Hence why we have the occasional troll pop up trying to discredit the ignore option!
