  • Cleaner rules (my experiences only!)

    1) If they've got money that week, they won't turn up.
    2) If they've got something better to do that week, they won't turn up.
    3) They think its perfectly acceptable to cancel at 9pm the night before because tomorrow is they're birthday. (all of a sudden it seems!)
    4) They really are experts at making up excuses for not turning up.
    5) Turning up 30 mins late and leaving 30 mins early for a 2 hour job is OK.
    6) If you ask them politely why they didnt clean this or that, they'll just quit (i.e. found out).
    7) They think they're your best friend ever (one even found a pregnancy test in the bin and came straight out and asked the mrs is she was pregnant - we hadnt even told family at that point - thought that was bit much).
  • We're on our fifth after a 6 month break, one gave up with a few week's notice (no issue at all with that) one was caught stealing from a friend, one shaved her time (3 hours to an hour and a half) , and my favourite was the one that "kept all her keys very safe and logged when they were out on a job" which didn't stop her leaving the key on the inside of the lock, shutting the door behind her, and then making it impossible to get into the house. I managed to get in by removing the open bathroom window up the end of a ladder.

Note this would not have got her the sack, mistakes happen. But I thought I would wait to see when her super duper key logging system would leap into effect. It didn't.

She phoned me a week later to say she couldn't find her key, and was outside the house. At which point I told her that her services were no longer required.

    Was I wrong?

    Hoping fifth works out
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%

Similar experiences to me. Not had the theft thing yet fingers crossed.

Its amazing what you experience mind. Never seen anything like it. The attitude you get back from them is also amazing. For instance,

    1) The one I mentioned to who was 30 mins late and leaving 30 mins early thought I was being picky. (this was a paid 2 hours). Even when there was someone in the house so it was obvious when she was there!

    2) The one who thought I was unreasonable expecting her to work when one week she couldnt come because she was busy painting her living room, next week she didnt want to work on her birthday and third week just didnt turn up.

    3) Then one we went on hols. She cleaned on Tuesday, we left on wednesday, asked her to forgo the next tuesday but come back week tuesday (day before we got home). No-one there but cats would have left fur. All agreed and we left cash.
Thursday brother-in-law caught her leaving hoiuse (2 days had elapsed). Either she just took the money or turned up knowing house was clean and did a quick 10 mins dust around. When we asked her why she went nuts, told us we were being unfair and quit.

    4) The one who found a pregnancy test in the bin and asked straight out to wife if she was pregnant. Talk about invasion of privacy and being discreet. Family and friends didnt know at this point!

    5) Yesterday, it appears she turned up 30 mins early no-one there so she went home. Didnt think - I'm early I'll wait/phone to see how long. Just assumed we didnt need her. Then ignored her phone for hours while wfe tried to find out where she was. Again, moaned that we were unreasonable.
  • I work as a cleaner, only on minimum wage... but I LOVE my job, I find cleaning therapeutic. By the way, I am British born and bred!!

I am contracted out to clean for a small company and by the looks of things, they think the world of me and truly appreciate everything I do and I love them, they have made me feel so welcome. I say hello to everyone I see and they say hello back and I say bye before I leave. We do have some banter as well!!

I started late last year because my predecessor only shown up when she could be bothered! I was interviewed on a certain day and within the hour, I was offered the job and told to start two days later.

At Christmas, I was given a bottle of Bollinger and chocolates. On my birthday, I was given a big bunch of flowers from all the staff, including the directors.

When I worked for big corporate companies in the past in administration and credit control roles I didn't get any form of recognition or appreciation, I and I am sure others was just seen as a body on a seat!

I get up at half five every morning too and en route to work, I see and hear alot of Eastern Europeans on their way to work too.
  • You could try putting an advert in privately on what's it tree. My friend did cleaning and charged 10 to 14 an hour. Did a brilliant job. I helped her and was very hard work. You might get a bette job with a private person if you pay well.

    So far we've tried:-

Two via an agency. After 1st one got the boot, agency promised this one was their best cleaner. She lasted 2 months also so told the agency to stuff it.

One was via a leaflet through the door. She was running it as her own business. Lasted 2 months - useless.

Last one was personal recommedation. Didnt turn up first time. Canned.

Got someone coming to see us today. Family business. Fingers crossed.

Exactly. Those of you who are cleaners and post on here are obviously the good ones. I can see why it annoys people when there are so many bad ones out there.
