Now I fully expect to get some stick for this but wonder what others think....

Let me just start by saying none of what I says applies to people with illness/disability/caring for others etc.

Decided to get in touch with an agency and get a cleaner in. First one lasted about 7 weeks. Used to turn up moan to the Mrs about how awful a job it was cleaning. Then again, in 7 weeks she only turned up for 3 - the other weeks there was some sort of emergency. So she got canned.

Next one turns up. Starts out OK no problems. Shes started the usual moaning now, turning up late, and now this week says she cant make it because its her birthday and she wants to go out for the day instead.

Not being funny but I'll try that next time my client wants work done and see how long I last.

OK so you're stuck doing a cleaning job but if you cant even do that properly then you aint going to get anything better. Of course, apologies for all the cleaners out there who do work hard but I'm 2 out of 2 so far!

I suspect that what you are experiencing here are people who don't actually need to work (e.g. other half brings in enough for basic needs) but decide to do it for a bit of extra money. They then decide that it's barely worth the effort so don't make said effort.

You are much less likely to get that sort of attitude from people who are well paid (although I've known people have similar experiences with building type workers who were not exactly badly paid.)

On the other hand, I've know people who have had cleaners for years and have found them perfectly reliable.

I think you're right. I got the impression it was a case of 'need money this week I'll turn up - dont need it next week cant be bothered'.

Nothing against low paid people just people who cant even be arsed to do the job their being paid for.

So you've had two cleaners that didn't suit you, and now everyone in a low paid job's got a bad attitude?

I know who I think has got the bad attitude...

I might have a poor employer but I still turn up for work as do millions of other people in this country. No excuse - if you dont like your job get off your backside and do something about it.

Like I said, not having a go at low paid workers in general, just those who dont make an effort.

OK. Fair point. I have edited the original post to reflect that it does not apply to ALL people.

My experience is, however, based on the attitude of my two cleaners and my apologies to all the hard working people out there. BTW my father worked in a factory for 40 years and was low paid but always worked hard from what I remember but then hes another generation where attitude was different.

which is exactly what 95% of people who are on minnimum wage do!

Everyone i know who works on minimum wage (believe me i probably know more than you) works hard, takes pride in their work and get very little gratitude for the hard work they do. Then you get bell ends coming on MSE gerneralising all low paid workers and giving them a bad name when essentially they are the backbone of the country. If you didnt have people on minimum wage youd be cleaning your own house, and the millions of people that turn up and work every day, the majority are on minimum wage. So go get a clue before you make general accusations about invaluable people to this country!

Noticed youve changed the thread title realising how much of a stupid statement your thread was making!

Like I said maybe the original post wasnt clear. It wasnt the intention to say all low-paid workers are the same but I would still argue there are people with a bad attitude like this as I have experienced.

Might not have been the intention but simply, thats what you wrote!

Just as many bureaucrats and well paid earners have this same attitude, getting by on the hard work of the people bellow them. Your posts suggest you are fairly well off and have a high paid job (thus should be educated) yet your inability to reason and think rationally suggest you are one of the high paid who get by on the hard work of others.

This is exactly why im soo happy in my minimum wage job and don't pursue my degree subject, i rarely have to deal with likes of yourself.

Nope. I have no-one below me to earn me any money. All money earned is from my own personal hard work and no-one else comes into the equation.

I do run my own company but I'm the only employee so it all ends with me. Yes, I am pretty well paid too and educated. But, remember, education is pretty much free (student loans and fees apart) and available to all in this country if you choose to take it up.

However, I think you would be surprised at my background to be honest. Certainly started with absolutely nothing.

I would say you're generalising about the high paid now as well.
