Wow Pigpen that is a vast improvement!
Is that an original period feature fireplace?
Aw I hate it when they are ripped out. Sorry.
When we bought our home, the previous owners ripped out the one in the bedroom and boarded it up. We were thrilled when we discovered it at the bottom of the garden amongst a pile of rubbish.
Hubby stripped it and repainted it and it looks lovely.
    Sorry for the lecture! *blush*

Yes it is an original but it was from the bedroom and has been moved into there the proper one was twice the size.

It is cast iron and has a massive crack across the top so we can't use it as it lets smoke into the room the whole thing is out of square and the mantel as a twist on it.. so everything bar the paintbrush, 2 pens and a phone slid off.. so it is coming out and we are seeing if it can be repaired to put it back in our room from whence it came.. we think.

The one going back in will make that look naff!

Have you not seen the one in my front room???

    Phew! Panic over then! :o
Sorry about that but we live in a 200 year old cottage and the previous owners ripped the guts out of it. It breaks my heart when you see "home" programmes and the owners buy an old property and make it all minimalist - buy a modern house if that's their taste!
    Sorry rant over! :o
Lovely fireplace PP, is your house Victorian?

Twas built in 1890.. has the original front door.. in BAAAD condition but that is on our list. It had no electric light in the front room and has the old bell pull wires in the walls.. though sadly the pulls have been removed.

I has the original fireplaces in 3 bedrooms, and the one that has been moved.

It has ALL the cornice and picture rails and the ceiling rose in the front room is fabulous.. we have only got one pic of it before the light went in and it is badly in need of paint but is lovely.. the newel post at the bottom of the stairs is gorgeous..

I'll bore you.. you've convinced me.. all my best bits...

We are just trying to find floor.. we aren't minimalist or anythign though a lot of it we are trying to decorate in the style of the house.. when we moved in the original wallpaper was in the hallway.. though in very poor condition.. and we left the original (1920) wallpaper in the loo..

We are unique in that we have a double storey extension built in about 1910 as well.. very ramshackle and scary.. we had bricks walls built just on floorboards!!

We also found some letters from the 1940's as well which were lovely.. I kept those.. I'd love to find the people who were mentioned in them though.. that would be cool!

Right bed.. we have a fireplace to demolish tomorrow!!

the fireplaces look beautiful and the house sounds wonderful.

I've not managed anything this evening and i feel so guilty, wish i'd gotten up and done something. still waiting to hear from freecycle, the one i prefer to use which is most local uses moderators which means it takes ages for things to hit the board. But that's just excuses - must do some work in this place tomorrow

I finally started getting rid of all the clutter today, after putting it off for ages. Only managed the kids room but that took me 4 hrs! Managed to bag 4 black bags of clothes and 6 of toys plus another 2 of rubbish for the bin. The decided to rearrange the entire room, change, wash and remake the beds. Plus a good hoover through. My kids finally have a bedroom to play in not just navigate their way through lol. Going to do my bedroom tomorrow, as i don't have a huge pile of toys to sort it shouldn't take me too long i hope.
In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different. ;)
