....can I interject a little sideline note here on the leaking roof front. Been there, done that. Presume this is slate roofs we are talking about? Might be best to try as hard as to get it replaced (yep - I know - I had to take out a darn loan myself:eek: ) - as once slate roofs start going...boy do they start going. Well...mine went at a rate of knots once it started. From a teensy leak to half of a bedroom ceiling dripping madly in no time. Not nice trying to fall asleep to the sound of rain when its going "plink"/ah:eek: (on my part)/"plink"/ah:eek: as it drips into every darn container you've been able to assemble.

    Morning everyone

I've come on here to work out my plan of action for today as I have a relatively free day!

Lemon Tree, if you really don't want the boxes hanging around and if it's going to make you miserable, then you could always Freecycle it as a "car boot lot" and get someone to take it off your hands in one go. I guess it's whether the potential money you would make is worth the inconvenience for a while?

Spendless, I've seen hangers offered on our Freecycle too. Otherwise what about having a look in local shop windows and see if anyone is having a jumble sale? They might be able to use hangers. The suggestion about leaving them outside on a fine day for people to help themselves is a good one too!

Lbnblbnb, you don't have to justify not doing ebay. It is time consuming and can be a pain! As long as usable stuff isn't being thrown out with the rubbish it's all good! :D

Pigpen, you're on a roll, as always! Please tell me you can see improvement and you're not going to be doing this indefinitely. The 6-7 years thing you mentioned earlier made me worry about you a bit, nobody should have to spend their whole life decluttering at your pace for that long.

By the way, I worked out that from selling all my CDs I have made approx £245 on 170 CDs, with about 30 still to go, if anyone was wondering what market value on secondhand CDs is at the moment!

    OK today the plan is:

    1. Audit tools of trade for my business.
Should be straightforward as I have an inventory, it's just checking I still have everything and still need it for the business, working out depreciation (for tax) and replacement costs (for insurance).

    2. Continue deleting unneeded files from PC hard drive.
Started this last night and cleared more than 1GB already!

    Better crack on!
  • God, you're all doing so well!:T

I have a problem. While some people have had some bits out of my toiletries clear-out, there's still lots of it left. Any ideas what to do with the rest of it? Really don't want to just chuck it in the bin, as it should be useful to somebody. Do you think Freecycle?

Last night did half an hour clearing again - did a 37 fling boogie (approximately - wasn't counting!) and dug out a load of clothes I'm planning to keep, although will possibly end up chucking, but will need washing first. So the monster's growing again  Still, keeping up my motivation and momentum for the first time ever, so still pleased with myself
    Live better on less

    Hi All,
Well not done much on the decluttering front as I wanted to get a few bits in the house up straight first.
Managed to wash, iron and put away all the laundry and the dirty washing basket only has a few bits in - not enough for a full wash. I know this may not seem a lot, but for me it is big achievement - an empty irnoning basket!!!
Decided to give the living room a good going over today - pulling out furniture, etc so that has been good but took longer than I anticipated.
Had a lady collect an item I offered on Freecycle so I am no longer a Freecycle Virgin! :)
MUST get started on the clutter but wanted my living room to look good first!
 Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Business stuff audit COMPLETE - nothing to chuck this time around unfortunately, but a few bits have already gone this year. Done the tax calcs, but the insurance calcs can wait till a bit nearer renewal time.

Computer drive is now almost fully organised but the replacement backups will take a while - it's working away in the background as I speak!

Stack of bookcrossing books left the house courtesy of Freecycle today, and books are now DONE as I want to keep the rest. I have two smallish shelves of travel books, one shelf of language/writing reference books and one shelf for the rest (cooking, medical, DIY, hobbies etc).

    Tomorrow:
    1. Go round the whole house looking for last bits for car boot sale.
    2. Finish backups if they don't all get done tonight

RedSpecs - I had a shoebox worth of toiletries, some partly used, which went on Freecycle earlier in the year. Just chuck anything like lipgloss etc which has been near the mouth (for hygiene reasons) and the rest should be fine. The lady who took mine was very happy with it.

    Good work today Clutterfree! :T

Thanks Missyg, but it is nothing compared to the whirlwind that is you! :D
Also managed to clean out the wood burning stove in the living room which takes a fair while - what's the betting hubby wants a fire at the weekend?!

I might give my clothes another go tomorrow. I've just counted and I have 32 garments in total (excluding a couple of things that are in the wash).

The few bits of summer stuff I kept from last year are a size 12 (bought new while I was still losing weight), which will be too big when it gets warmer.

Not quite so sure about what to do with a couple of my current winter trousers which are one size too big - at present I wear them but hate them because they bunch up at the waist with a belt. I should just get rid of them as it gets warmer, right? Even though they are just a few weeks old.

Ceridwen Roof replaced about 10 years ago-think more stone cottage in North Wales and the wind and rain blowing straight of cader idris with nothing to stop it! Plus dodgy repotining on the front of the house which I am in dispute about!
:o 2008 will be the year I finally get organised!:o
    :eek:Failed miserably-will try harder in 2010!
