Sorry I'm very rude.
Big welcome to Greengrocer.

Hi Ex
Right, firstly, don't panic. You've come through worse than this by taking the first step to sort out your DMP. I'm gonna post this message so you know someone is around and reread your message again before answering.

Okay, I'm not gonna tell you to tell your other half, because although that may benefit you, I also know that you will be aware of that and you obviously have your reasons for it.
They may arrest the money going into your account, but from the few things I've heard they only tend to take enough to pay the minimum monthly payment (although that isn't necessarily good if you don't have the money, it's better than it all going).
I have a feeling that if you asked the CCCS/Payplan (which one are you with again?) they'd say that it all has to go under the DMP and overdrafts would be turned into debt. The reason I think this is that I have a Natwest account and loan which I wanted to keep open (switch card etc) and was going to pay off myself via extra income. The woman wasn't having it. I even said that my parents would pay it off in two months time (lie - it would be me, but was trying to get round the situation) and she said no again, because it's not fair on the other creditors. Hmm... sorry, probably not making you feel good here, sorry.
Is there any way that you could open a new parachute account and get your wages tranferred? Even if it's not a switch account, would he notice if your just giving him cash? Or, perhaps you could enquire about taking yourself off as a named account holder? Causes problems when trying to get stuff done, but might be a temporary solution?
Is there any room on one of your overdrafts? Maybe take the remaining cash out of that one to clear the overdraft on the other one? That way, if the worse comes to the worse, they'll only close one of them. I can't see them wanting to close all your accounts, because, at the end of the day, they would rather have your salary coming in and earning them interest surely?
Sorry I don't have any definite advice, as I'm a stage behind you (although also have a Hellifax credit card and overdraft current account!). The best people to ask would be CCCS/Payplan, but I guess if you tell them about the overdrafts they will want to pile it all together.
Hopefully someone will have better advise - why don't you start your own thread? Maybe more people will read it, I think it's only us lot who check these posts?
I'm thinking about you, please let me and the others know what you decide to do and how you get on.

Oh and just in case there are any Hellifax etc spies on here, any extra income as noted on my signature is being saved and put towards my DMP once my priorities are paid(!)Member #4 of the DMP Mutual Support Club - DFW Nerd #335

Thanks Smilealot. One salary goes into one account and the other salary goes into the other. I have a dormant cardcash account with them too. I was considering transferring the surplus (ie leave enough in the current accounts for the bills) to the cardcash each month. That would mean that I could withdraw cash only and not do anything stupid with it. My OH pays everything in life with cash. I mean everything. If he is buying a car he gets me to withdraw the whole lot in cash. He doesn't do cheques or cards. I wish I had been so wise.
I don't really want to mention it to CCCS if I can avoid it. At the end of the day the ODs are a joint debt whereas my DMP is my debt and mine alone. Surely to transfer the OD debt we would need a joint DMP? Hellifax have on occasion taken a payment when I have missed one. They have taken the minimum payment. I can cope with that. To be honest Hellifax were the first creditor I contacted. I phoned them back in November to ask if I could pay £50 a month for 6 months until I got back on my feet. I planned to do this will all creditors. Hellifax told me they wouldn't consider it unless I went with CCCS or Payplan which surprised me.0 -
Okay, so Halifax have known about the situation for a while then.
All I'd say (sorry for being a bore) is be careful about your other creditors finding out about your overdrafts. Are any of them linked to Halifax? It's a good point about the overdraft and joint DMP, I don't know the answer to that one.
Would you not consider opening up a cardcash account elsewhere just in case they do close down your accounts? Doesn't sound like your OH would mind. You could say that that bank is offering better rates and that type of account is good for money management? At least then you are covered and can pay of the overdrafts gradually if it all works out?
I laughed about your OH asking you to withdraw cash to buy a car - maybe putting your money under the mattress is the best idea (not such a bad one in these days of sky high bank charges!).Member #4 of the DMP Mutual Support Club - DFW Nerd #335

I don't honestly believe anyone else would give me/us an account.
No other creditors are linked with Hellifax. God I remember the days when they were a nice building society "Get a Little Xtra Help from the Halifax" and all that jazz. Well maybe they are nice if you don't have a load of debt you can't pay.
I know that I have single handedly ruined my OH's credit rating. I know it's right and I know I am the lowest of the low for everything. The one saving grace is that he would never wish to apply for credit.0 -

I'd be careful about this too - the defaults etc that you will/could get because of the DMP could affect your joint accounts too. I know that when our mortgage comes up for renewal we'll have difficulty getting such a good deal because of my DMP. Maybe someone will have had experience of this? Hope it's all fine though.

Hi Sea!
Ex - I think your OH can do a Notice of Disassociation to help ease the credit burden? I'm not saying it will solve it all, but maybe some?
I thought basic bank accounts didn't require any credit checking? I'm 99% sure that's true. In which case - bingo!
P.S. I remember those lovely Hellifax days too - I had a SuperSaver Squirrel saving book which the nice lady who came to primary school once a week wrote in that I saved £2 that week. I also had a house shaped piggy bank... now they charge me £39 for a bounced DD letter!Member #4 of the DMP Mutual Support Club - DFW Nerd #335

Thanks. If any of you know of a bank account that I could get please let me know. We don't have Nat West over here so it's not an option. Smile turned me down when I applied a couple of months ago. I'm finding it hard to face rejection so need a dead cert.
Sorry for sounding so weak.0
