Petrol running low

What bugs me more than the queues at the petrol stations is the damnable actions of UNITE, who propose to start their actions during school holidays. They're not hitting out at anyone other than people attempting to mollify kids during Easter. They'll all be sitting comfortably in their offices, no doubt with easy access to petrol, while parents up and down the Country are basically stranded.
I've booked a caravan holiday for myself and kids - now, with a 400 mile round trip starting on the 9th, I'm seriously worried. Do I cut my losses of several hundred hard-earned pounds in case I'm stranded with 3 kids?
Maybe all us parents should find out the UNITE leaders, and dump our kids on them while the strikes last!0 -

No. It's a 'proposed' strike. The current shortages are due to panic buying ahead of any proposed strike action during the Easter holiday period.
Talks to avert the strike action are underway today. Me, I want the UNITE leaders who want to push this action ahead to come and entertain my kids over the holidays, if I can't get the petrol to take them away.:(0 -

I seriously doubt the tanker drivers will have stockpiles to distribute amongst friends and family. They'll be just as inconvenienced as you.
Just fill up the car and a jerry can and you'll be sorted for 400 miles. It won't spontaneously combust in the garage and you might have to queue for half an hour to get it, but you won't have to worry about anything then.0 -

If you can supply them the petrol to visit, I'm sure they could probably arrange something."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Just cycled past a queue of about 30 cars waiting to get into Morrisons petrol station.
I was sorely tempted to tell some of them that their petrol might last longer if they turned their engines off, but managed to resist the temptation.0 -
As I cycled down my usual route this morning, one petrol station £1.47.9, yesterday £1.45.9 but still every pump full. Other station on my route sold out of fuel.
The roads seemed busier than usual, guess lots of drivers out looking for a place to fill up.
Still lovely day for a cycle0 -

What car do you have? Many cars will manage 400 miles on a single tank so you wouldn't have to refuel while away...0 -
We went to the garage yesterday and put £20 in as we normally do each week, there was only one other car there, no panic buying here. I was more annoyed at the fact the petrol was 140.9p a litre!
I might double up and stick £40 in next week because my OH has to go to hospital 3 times a week for his dialysis, if there is a shortage that should last 2 weeks, if there isn't I won't have to put any petrol in the following week. If for some reason petrol supplies do dry up (and personally I doubt it) he'll have to get the patient transport ambulance into hospital, I'm presuming ambulances will still be able to get petrol?Dum Spiro Spero0 -

Their tankers on the whole only have 1/3 the capacity of a typical petrol tanker so they'd need going on three times the number of tankers currently in use to keep the supply up at normal levels. They don't have that many.
Just think of all that extra fuel they will use, in that case :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?
