This has been the fastest loading visit to the forum I have had for months, pages are loading in less than 10 seconds, sometimes as low as 5 seconds.

g+1 button is still last thing to load when opening a thread.

Still just as quick this morning, I am getting scared now :p

I have not changed anything on my system for about 5 days, there is an Adobe Flash update due but I cancelled the reminder this morning and there has not been a Windows update this week.

Just found this thread after looking for some sort of forum problem link - MSE forum has been slow for about a month. Seems to be very 'bursty' waits and hangs for a while then loads then waits, then hangs..... all other wbsites are fine and internet generally is quick.
  • Hi folks,

Just to update you on the status of the investigation; MSE Ian has been working hard to identify and fix some of the issues you have been encountering over the last few weeks.

He has made a number of changes over the last couple of days that we hope will show a signifincant improvement, particularly for IE8 users.

If you have noticved a change in speed, please do let us know but of course, we appreciate all your feedback.

    Many thanks,

    Webby
  • OK. There has been some improvement. Gone from very nearly throwing the towel in in frustration to giving it one last chance.

Do enlighten us as to what changes have been made?

Much better - not great - but much better.

Thanks for trying guys, but it's just as bad as ever for me.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

The 'top of the page' lag has all but gone now and the pages are definitely loading a lot quicker, the forum is useable again after weeks, nay months of painfully slow loading.

Just goes to show that the tweaks done at MSE towers prove that it has to be the site and not the individual computers/connections/browsers.

On http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com the first time around I get the 30 second freeze.

If I hit directly into any other page, say a specific bookmarked forum, then I don't.

    If I add this line

    127.0.0.1 use.typekit.com

    to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

then I never get the freeze.

Please note, don't modify that file unless you know what you're doing, and also some AVs will lock you out the file giving a permanent Access Denied even if you are in elevated privileges mode.

Seems worse. On first visit to forum today my whole system froze for 20 seconds (ctrl+alt+del would not even work). I'm using Win 7 and IE9.

What does MSE try to load when you first visit? Surely MSE can switch off these to try to resolve the issue?

i'm fine with my internet speed and all other websites.
