I had the pro-forma shopneo letter...checked my card and no dodgy transactions...woooohooo...
then about three days ago...the !!!! hit the fan

Easy to say this now, but you should have changed your card when you got the letter. It pays to be pro-active, and not re-active, at times like these.

But as you yourself say, shopneo "should have been more proactive in reporting this to the Police when the scale of it became known",page 6 Post #113

They were never going to call the Police after some of the things that have been turfed up from the past by members on here. They've probably got a lot to hide as apose to nothing as claimed by Mr Owen.

Mr Owen taking his email address off the Shopneo contact page is very questionable and unprofessional as to why he is avoiding contact from his cusomers, not that it's helped him at all as it's posted all over the place lol.

Has anyone detailed how Shopneo's checkout works? Does it go to an external service e.g Paypal or Worldpay to take cc details or is the acquisition inside Shopneo's web site?

A hack of say, Paypal or Worldpay is extremely unlikely.

I practically hold my breath whenever I see my card details being taken directly by a not very well known online store's website (the https in the web page address and padlock do not add up to much nowadays). I prefer to put such details directly into Paypal/Worldpay or such.

change that ....bang 'em up to NeoStealo
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"

From shopneo Terms & Conditions (25th Feb 2007)

    Credit Card Security
Online credit card transactions are handled securely by Lloyds. They comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS) and are externally audited in this respect. Your credit card details are not held on file.
But it doesn’t now as they have been changed, strangely enough the last edited entry says “Terms updated 5th January 2007” which is wrong.

Yes, and I stick to that as well. I couldn't see the point of your post.

    I also stated elsewhere

Its turning into a thread full of speculation and incorrectness which benefits no-one.

Which you can see, it has done.

Far as I'm concerned its now a matter that is in the hands of my credit card company. My proactive approach was to inform them, people here, and shopneo. Soon as I'd done that my involvement ceased.

As soon as my card was cancelled, useful data that I supplied when ordering is no different to what can be picked up from an electoral role (apart from the fact I don't appear on the published one), and less than I would supply if sending someone a cheque for goods.

As I said elsewhere, I'd be interested, from a professional point of view, to find out where the problem lay, but I'm not entitled to that info.

Yes, if you pay via PayPal (PP) it goes to the PP site. It's how I paid for my order (instinctively thought it may be safer) - have had no problem with fraud like the others who paid by CC. One hears bad things about PP sometimes, but I haven't had a problem since I've been with them for >4 years & 130+ transactions. G

looking at the digital forums web site it appears that shopneo are carrying out a major security audit....well thats what it says lol...

Maybe this is why its taking so long or why no one is replying to confirm what happened, the police will be checking this out... i know the last time i got my card scammed online..... via orange mobile phone offical website they never bothered with letting me know .... in fact they even went as far as telling me its a bank - customer issue now not theres....and sent two mobile phones to an address in london with my name on it.....i live 50 miles from london.......... charming eh!!!

Lets hope this audit gets to the bottom of it all.... time will tell i suppose.

either way posts speculating who, why, when, how etc is not helping to get anyones money back so lets wait and see.....
