If you want to see a real scam online shop story, look at this:

Very good, there's nothing unreal about the Shopneo scenario though.

The difference is that the case in the story seemed to be a deliberate attempt to set up a tempting online shop just in order to capture data for fraud. With Shopneo, one assumes it was accidental. Shopneo should have put a statement on it's website and in this forum indicating generally what corrective action they took, to allay one's fears that their case is not similar.

Cant be sure if I ordered from shopneo in the past but...

I just got ripped off for a £100 from my bank account, came up on statement WWW.WEBDOLLAR.COM (VAXJO). This is a swedish co. (bit like paypal).
They send me a letter saying thanks for joining webdollar and included a new pin and security code for to use for MERMAID POKER website!!

!!!!!!!! i have never heard of this, so whoever nabbed my details got everything, name address phone credit card no.s etc.

I informed the Police and cancelled cards first thing, also contacted https://www.webdollar.com, Mermaid Poker to end and transactions using my name.

I managed to get a "last known Proxy I.P. address of "who" used my details with them. I wont give that i.p here since the Police are now looking into it, but I did a WHOIS search on it and it came up as blueyonder.co.uk based i.p. Virgin now own them so I contacted them also but wouldnt give details of who the i.p belonged to. The Police will have to do that bit.

    i know it was only a £100 but I want this Ba*t**d caught !!!

My advice is if you have seen an illegal transaction on your account, TRACE IT to whoever debited your account, hit them with the 1987 data protection act so that they release the IP of the person who made the transaction with them. Once you have that, use an online ip lookup service to get the provider and take it from there.

    hope this helps someone....

Looking back thru this thread, one security idea occured to me: It should be possible to specify to your credit card co. that your card can never be used for online gambling or cash transfer without personal phone authorization.

Also, maybe time to move to Cahoot's Webcard system:

    - fraud-proof?

I did ask my credit card company about this when had to cancel my card, they told me it’s not possible, any extra security method will be used for all transactions, unless someone knows otherwise?

You have just confirmed that the credit card co's offer rubbish security, by not offering a tighter security requirment for online gambling sites etc (which are renowned for fraudulant transactions). The credit card co's are then happy enough, after some grumbling, to refund you as a result of their own slack system. If I were a shareholder in a credit card co I would not like seeing my money being thrown away like this.

Re the company taking your date of birth. I can confirm that they use it to send discount vouchers coming up to your birthday. I made several posts praising my experience with the company but in the absence of feedback from them regarding their security breech I feel no more confident in ordering from them again than I felt when I had to cancel my card.

I never enter an accurate DOB into websites that ask.
