Basically they've been capturing card details for offline processing. I believe this is a no no with banks and I don't think they should be doing it.

It is pretty obvious how the fraud has occurred.

Either someone has hacked their site and is getting a copy of the transactions with card details etc.

Or someone has had access to the hard copies they've got.

When the EPOS transaction is processed, it prints two copies. One with the full card details which is the merchant copy and then the one where some of the numbers are starred out. This is the customer copy.

I have checked the receipts I got from Shopneo with my order again and I am a little surprised that one of them is a 'card holder not present' receipt.

I am surprised because most internet stores I use seem to use a third party for card payments (like Worldpay etc) - so they don't even see the card details. However, Shopneo seem to have processed the card details themselves.

I made the purchase online on Monday 5 February. Yet the transaction was not put through (according to the card purchase part of the receipt) until Wednesday 8th February! The card receipt also shows the expiry date and part blanked-out card number - just as if I had actually gone into a shop and paid for something myself. Does this mean that instead of the payment being taken online, Shopneo have taken the card details and manually put them through (in other words - they actually had / have the card details?) If so, surely employee fraud is a possibility??

I don't know if there is any pattern, but my card purchase receipt has 'served by: Steve Adams' on it - out of interest, has anyone else got the same???

These betting companies will loose the money in the long run as when the chargeback letters start rolling in, the bank will take the money off them.

And so they should. They should tighten up their security to stop fraudulent accounts being set up eg sending a letter to the card holders registered address which they have to confirm receipt of before any money can be spent.

How could I go about suing this company??? I got my money back but they are in total breach of miss-communication!

    How could I start?
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"

It's not just shopneo, and your transactions don't have to be recent:

wouldnt that be easier to track down? Unless the tickets are sold in the meantime I would have thought the name had to match the passport. Surely all the police have to do is see who turns up for the flight?????

...and what if they don't pay or have disappeared? The cc company will have already stumped up the cash.

In reply to previous comments, not ALL machines produce two copies of receipts . Barclaycard Business machines typically produce one carbon copied receipt that contain all card details (excluding the security code).

Also, generally with merchant providers they DO charge for all sales however there is a refund for that charge should there be a refund to the customer be made. (AMEX on the other hand seem to most of the time 'forget' to pass it on)
