Shopneo - Possible card fraud warning

I admit until this scare I had got very complacent about online security. Its given me the poke I needed and not entering my real DOB is one of the steps I'll be taking0
-
Despite me phoning bank to cancel debit card and get new one sent out, I have had a transaction taken from my a/c from Eurobet for £69 (99.00 Euros) + £1 overseas transaction fee dated 15/03/07.
Been on to 3 different depts this morn and waiting for another call back.
Basically they are telling me my card was still valid for 30 days after requesting a new one. I did tell them about the scam when I phoned and that was why I wanted a new card. Now they have me doubting myself whether I asked for it to be cancelled or just requested a new one.
They said it had only been put through as damaged. The initial person I spoke to didn't say it would still be valid for 30 days.
It's TSB.
Does anyone have any advice where I stand with this please.:hello: Never say Never :smileyhea0 -
They record calls I would think.Ask them to check what was said.0
-
Maybe that's what they're doing now. I'll let you know when they phone me back.
I'm worried now in case anything else comes off a/c, as the transaction was only made yesterday.
Thanks hollydays:hello: Never say Never :smileyhea0 -
Have you updated the bank now as to the actual problem and have they re advised you? ie have you now cancelled the card?
If you needede more advice at any stage google the financial ombudsman service, there is a helpline.0 -
They phoned me back...Very nice and are putting the money back in to my a/c. Apparently the Phone Bank Advisor I spoke to initially should have cancelled my card straight away as I informed them about the fraud warning. My card is def cancelled now thank goodness.
He said it was a training issue.
I think they must have listened to the original tape, because banks don't usually settle a dispute so quick.
I'm happy with this quick result, just a pity it took me so many calls to get to the bottom of it.
The scam must still be going on and I hope everyone will keep a check on their bank statements.:hello: Never say Never :smileyhea0 -
Thank you very much Shopneo, two months worth of hassle. No help, explanation or apology but my Halifax bank has now credited back the £189 that was frauduntely taken. (I sent the fraud report with Shopneo's letter).
Guys, does anyone know if I should have got the £3 transaction fee aswell?? coz I didnt, but I am happy with what I got.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -

I rang Shopneo when all this first started on there so called locall phone number believe me its not a lowcall cost £1.20 for a sort call Shopneo/Paul Owen really are rubbish.0 -

Fraudsters....bang 'em up I say.
You're wrong with that one. It is a misconception that the bank cover transactions that turn out to be fraudulent. This is probably caused by their false advertising "100% gaurantee against online fraud"
It is actually the retailer who looses out. If you went into Asda and bought £100 of stuff with a stolen card. Asda would get a letter through asking for more details. Once confirmed fraud, the bank would take the money back from Asda and credit back to their customer. Asda loose the food and the money.
These betting companies will loose the money in the long run as when the chargeback letters start rolling in, the bank will take the money off them.0 -
the reason they don't care is because they don't loose out. If a fraud transaction goes through and is found the retailer looses the money and product.
If the retailer takes a payment that's fraud and notices it, they're charged a percentage from their bank for receiving the transaction then another percentage for doing a refund. If they hold onto the money and don't ship the item, they'll get the money taken off them anyway and a mark against them that they've been targeted by fraud.
In any way the bank and the fraudsters are the ones who are winning.
Sometimes I think the bank let slip peoples credit card details just to make themselves extra money! You have just confirmed that the credit card co's offer rubbish security, by not offering a tighter security requirment for online gambling sites etc (which are renowned for fraudulant transactions). The credit card co's are then happy enough, after some grumbling, to refund you as a result of their own slack system. If I were a shareholder in a credit card co I would not like seeing my money being thrown away like this.0
