You sold your own son 2 flake bars for £1! why you would sell your own children food!£100 - £10,0000

Ooh, I really fancy a Flake now."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

OP is definitely onto something here! :rotfl:Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £19,575.020

Oh wise folk - help please.
OH has got it into his head that all food brought by 'housekeeping' money should be shared equally between all 4 of us (a nearly 15 year old and nearly 17 year old sons, himself and me). This all kicked off because I let #1 son 'buy' (for £1, which has gone into the family holiday fund pot) 2 Cadbury's Flake bars from a box of 24 I'd bought from Approved Foods.
OH says the 24 should be divided by 4 (=6) and if somebody has one when nobody else does, then they have 'lost' one of their 6.
I believe this sort of attitude, especially for food that's not 'one off' (like home made cakes etc.) isn't healthy. More Flakes can be obtained when the next person fancies some chocolate, and to count each one out is rediculous. He says because he's working, and #2 son is at school, that our son and I have an advantage because we're at home - we do NOT pig out when he's at work BTW.
!!!!!!?!
You bought out of date flakes off the internet and then sold one to your own son?! And now your hubby is angry as he thinks that your son should have only been given the opportunity to buy his "share" of the flakes?!
I thought I'd heard it all on here when it comes to "dilemas" that people are struggling with, but this takes the [STRIKE]flake[/STRIKE] biscuit!:D

I can kind of understand the sharing out part as I do a similar thing with crisps and choc bars sometimes. I do it to make sure everyone that wants/needs one for a packed lunch has enough to last the week. After that it's a free for all!

My OH will always share things out equally though - it comes from being in a big family and constantly feeling disappointed because someone else pinched all the best bits.
I don't think it's particularly healthy for children to always have food divided like this as they don't learn about sharing and moderation.
I really don't really understand why you need to charge your son 50p per flake - that seems harsh, but I'm guessing you have your reasons.0 -
This must be wind up!!0

If anyone had pulled an argument over someting this small I would have told them where to stick there biscuits and not bothered getting any more.
Im abit stunned by the reactions on this matter. Maby she was teaching her son that luxory items dosent come for free. And its not like she benefited from her action on this, the family holiday fund pot did.0 -
I remember this poster. She's started lots of threads like this in the past about her family's really dysfunctional relationship with food.

is the one I remembered but there are a few more too.0 -
Are you such on a tight food budget that you have to count to the penny who should have what? When do you find the time to get down to such budgeting detail, and more importantly, if you budget is so tight that there is a benefit to do this, why are buying treats which are not a necessity? Why not let your son buy his own in the newsagents with his own money?0
-
If you have so many problems with the treats - sharing/stealing - then there is a very simple answer to this problem...
STOP BUYING THEM!!!
You sound like a very disfunctional family - I would have told my mum exactly where she could stick her flake if she ever tried to charge me for food when I lived at home at 13
And no, I dont think the OP is teaching the children about money0
