I wrote to Mint at the end of March requesting £652 back. I received a letter at the beginning of April offering me £188 which they said was the difference between the amount I had been charged and the new amount of £12. I wrote back on 10 April saying I did not think this offer was reasonable, and if I didnt hear from them in 14 days I would go to court.
I have today received another letter from them offering £188 again. they are re-iterating that this is the banks final response to my claim and that if I am still dissatisfied, I should refer my case to the financial ombudsman.
What should I do now? should I just continue with the timetable and do MCOL, or should I contact the ombudsman? What do you think?
Any ideas / opinions welcomed!
thanks0 -

A week later I received my letter and cheque back along with a covering letter headed ' Data Protection Act - Subject Access Request, saying the charge for this service is £5.00
I will resend my letter and new cheque, but has anyone else come across this?
Thanks

I should add this is Royal Bank of Scotland
Yeah I got this too so I sent them £5 and a request for statements for all my accounts (I have 3 with them) - which I believe the letter said the £5 covered - and I received a huge bundle of statements yesterday. Not had a chance to look through them yet though...0 -
Thanks smbchead ! Sounds like an early delaying tactic to me....;)
How long did it take to get your statements back?

Thank you for letting me know about the bank not having to pay you charges, I did not know that!!!
The charges without interst are £3974.49, he was offered £3680.
Does it seems worth it, pushing for £294.49 ??????
What have other people done in this situation??
Thanks for your help again :T0 -
I sent my cheque to cover statements some a few weeks ago, how long has it taken people to receive statements after sending the cheque?0

Please can nickmack (or Edinburghlass) clarify my next step. I threatened Court action last Thursday for £694.00 plus interest of £110.04 (total £804.04) and I yesterday received the very popular "8 week" letter from RBS offering me £694 gesture of goodwill blah blah blah...... (only 2 day turnaround - very impressed!). Upon reading your post No. 727 above, am I right in thinking that I have to accept this now as they have not tried to under-cut me?
Would like to keep paperwork moving smoothly so any feedback would be appreciated.

Yes if they offer you the full amount less interest before it gets to court, you have to accept this0 -
Cheers pigsmightfly. Personally, I am chuffed to bits with this - £700 I didn't have last month!

I have looked at consumeractiongroup and they suggest that you can claim for more than 6 years because the charges are unlawful and that negates the 6 year rule.
I have requested the WHOLE history relating to charges etc and I will let you know how long they go back.
