I'm just about to start court proceedings against RBS for credit card charges. I've been dealing with their office in Southend - is this the same address I use with MCOL? Also, is a PO Box no. ok, or does it have to be a real address?0

Hi, my partner and I are currently trying to reclaim our bank charges. I have gone through the process of sending letter 1 and letter 2. 2 weeks after sending letter 2 my partner recieved her money back as a "good will gesture" on the same day I recieved a letter saying that they are looking in to my "complaint" and they would be in touch by the 5th of april (1 month after being told that they will look in to it), Today is the 5th of april I recieved a letter saying that they are still reveiwing it, they would be in toch by the 2nd of may. Is there anything that I should/can do? Why are they stalling with mine and not my partners? Mine is about a £200 higher.0

You shouldn't have waited this long, you must not let them dictate the timescale. Send the Letter Before Action now threatening court and allowing them 14 days. Then, if they don't make a full offer, file the court claim when this time is up.0 -

They have 40 days to respond to your request. After that time you can refer it to the Information Commissioner. I understand that many banks are in the habit of making you wait the full time (mine took 38). Either that or they're just snowed under with requests
BTW, I think you may have posted to the wrong thread - Halifax is part of the same group as the Bank of Scotland, not the RBS. Also there's a thread specifically for Halifax charges (though I'm sure you'll get an answer wherever you post)0 -
Can anyone help? I wrote to Halifax 10 days ago to reclaim my bank charges using the MSE template saying they have 14 days to respond. I recieved a letter this morning saying that they are very sorry I am unhappy with my bank charges but the Financial Services Authority gives them 8 weeks to investigate and respond to complaints. Are they allowed to string it out that long or can I send them another letter straight away?
I'd appreciate any advice!0 -
Hi All,
I've been with RBS for 8 years and for as long as I can remember, I have had either a Royalties Gold or Royalties account which charged 12 or 8 quid (sorry pound sign doesn't work!!) a month. This would give me preferential rates on loans, free travel insurance, discounts on restaurants ect. None of these 'benefits' would be of use to me.
My question is, would I be able to claim these 'charges' back in the same manner as the overdraft charges.
I know this may sound greedy but, if you add up all these charges it comes to around 800 'quid'!!
Thanks

You dont have to stick to their timescales no. They have entered you into their complaints procedure which is their own timescales and laid out by the FSA. You are following a court process and all that is needed then is to give them plenty of time to respond and be aware of impending court action so you're fine. Press on with the process laid out in the timescales on this site and good luck0
