I strangely wasn't going to bother until I was charged today £38 for a bounced direct debit but I'm going to go for it now!
I spoke to my RBS branch today about requesting my 6 year statement of charges, and the girl told me I would have to ask for this in writing. Is this normal?

Good for you.
Some banks do allow you to do this over the phone and I have never heard anyone mention they have been told to put it in writing before - unless this is another one of the many delaying tactics0 -
ah possibly! Well I'll send it off anyway and then have a look at all the money they've clawed off me in the past 6 years.. I'll ring another branch and see what they say before I post the request off though.
(EDIT) Apparently I do have to request this in writing - they don't have 6 years worth of records on their system - ahem seems a very strange way of keeping data! Delaying tactic like you said probably.(/EDIT)

RBOS - have successfully obtained the first set of statements under the data protection act - after clerk told me it would £15 per statement.
I have two Q's one is a bit stupid. I am using the HMSC online service. It is for a joint account - presumably I put both our forenames in the on line application, even though the form is for an individual?
The second Q is a bit more interesting. All the famiuy bank with RBOS. We are spearheading the action by claiming for ourselves first and are in the process of obtaining the statements for the children. Has anyone claimed as a class action, rather than as an individual? If so can they explain the difference in process to an individual claim?0 -
I am claiming on a joint account and am now at the stage where we are applying to the court. We are using the HMSC on-line service. Presumably I put both our fornames in the application - claimant is "individual"
Secondly we are claiming ahead of our kids (who have the real problems). Has anyone attempted a claim as a class action or does it have to be an individual?0 -

Yeah most likely!
At least if you write to them they have to write back so anything they say, you have in black and white which is much better than telephone calls as you can never prove what they have said to you if you had to.0 -
HMSC on line? Allows small claims to be processed without trouble of writing letters etc. You need to register but is seems simple enough. Recommended on this site to save time and avoid paperwork being "lost"

Yep true sounds good...... ball officially rolling now then! need to get 'parachute' account on the go methinks, although it doesn't look like RBS have been closing people down.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 784 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
I was told by an RBOS bank manager that "they wouldn't do anything as petty as close the account".
Still I'd get a back-up account. Try Co-op smile on-line account.0
