Anyone have the address to where i send my 2nd letter to?
Just for clarification, this is the letter whereby i have listed my charges and am trying to claim back a sum from The Royal Bank of Scotland. In addition to this query, i have pasted the letter below. I would be grateful if someone can skim read it and point out any problems.
Muchas gracias.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Re. Account number: **********
Further to my most recent query, I am now in receipt of my bank statements that are backdated to 6 years for the above account number.
Upon perusal of these statements (copies enclosed), I have calculated all the default charges that have been applied to my account (please see enclosed document). In order to follow my calculations, please commence by reflecting the charges I have listed, with the first statement on top of the pile.
As you may have noticed, my account was originally a Royalties Gold Account. I ceased subscribing to this service around January 2001, which subsequently made my account an Interest Paying Current Account.
Following on from a conversation with one of your advisors, I understand that when i was a Royalties Gold member, the charge was comprised of the following two items:
• Royalties Gold Subscription Fee
• Service Charge for exceeding the agreed overdraft limit aka Unauthorised Borrowing Fee
I recall the Royalties Gold subscription fee being £9.00, which later became £12.00 In addition to this, there have been numerous times I have been paying interest that reaches a sum in excess of £100.00.
I am writing to request that you repay all the default charges that have been applied to my account. I do not believe these charges reflect the true cost to The Royal Bank of Scotland of going into unauthorised overdraft.
In the art of compromise I have subtracted the higher membership fee (£12.00) from the charge applied during the period I was a Royalties Gold Account holder. Furthermore, I am not claiming back any interest.
That being said, the charges total £1532.50. I believe I have been unlawfully deprived of the money and therefore ask that you repay me the full amount. Please find a full schedule of the charges with this letter.
I look forward for a full response to this letter within 14 days.
Yours faithfully,0 -
Letter seems okay, I've removed your account number (after taking note of it
) and you can send that letter to your local branch, registered.

i recently wrote to RBS re charges to both of my accounts over the last 6 years using the template. I did not calculate interest and made the bank aware of this even though i would still be out of pocket - however i believed the sum i calculated from both accounts of charges accrued amounted to £2258.83. rbs have replied and stated they will as a GOGW i might add, transfer immediately into my account the sum of £1680 - this is the sum of charges from one of the accounts. The remainder is from the other account £578.83. I am not satisfied with this as this is still a substantial amount of money in any terms and still does not include the amount of interest i did not bother to calculate. Any ideas????????0

As you can only claim the interest if it goes to the court stages, you would not have been offered that anyway.
You can reply and say you will accept that amount in partial payment but you will now take court proceedings.0 -
ChargeHater! wrote:Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me - I am considering creclaiming my bank charges from RBS and would love to hear anyone elses experiences with them - good or bad??!!
Also - if they close my account, does anoyon know a bank that will consider someone with bad credit scoring for a current account?? I have one mainly due to accruing charges !!!
Thanks
if it helps i requested the last 6 years on both mty accounts for £10.00. Thats your first move. Then when you receive them it is simply a case of going through with a highlighter and marking all of the charges you have incurred and totalling them. However you will have to type up in chronological order the amount of charges and the total sum. Its upto you if you want to work out the interest. I did not. My charges totalled about £2500 they have replied to my request of a total refund with an offer of £1660 which happens to be one lot of charges from one account. I am not accepting this. The very fact they are offering this amount is in itself an addmittance by RBOS they have broken the law. Although they describe it as a GOGW - !!!!!!!! they are thieves aided by the government. I intend to give them one more chance then its the courts. The fact that they replied with an offer is a degree of success so get on with it - its your money. You will need to use the template letter - goto home page.0 -

if i said i was not accepting the amount offered Or said i would accept it as partial payment but still goto court. Would there be a chance that they would withdraw their offer and close the shutters so to speak. Has this happened?0 -
WELSH-DRAGON wrote:Well after successfully reclaiming my charges from HSBC I am going to pursue Royal Bank of Scotland.
I got into terrible trouble around 2 years ago and had lots of charges but thought that because the account is closed I could not claim. However, after reading these boards I can see that it is possible so have drafted my first letter asking for a breakdown of my charges. Having seen how easy it was the first time I hope it is the second time too

Well today after sending my letter off on 12th January - I receive a letter entitled "Data protection act - subject access request". It states that from the informatioin I provided it was not possible to trace the account I requestedeven though I provided, the bank account, the sort code, and my DOB
. The letter also acknowledges receipt of my payment for £10 in respect of the fee.
Rather annoyingly, there is no phone number on the letterheaded paper so I will fire off another letter and send it recorded delivery.
