i rang Tommy MacLean @ the customer relations dep in Edinburgh asking for an update
This is the chap my best mate spoke to and he seems to be the main headbanger in these situations.

I sent my initial letter requesting the refund of charges last Thursday (11th) so we'll see what happens. I'm asking for £2467 before interest!

Hiya, im about to start my reclaims but i only use this one account im bout to claim from.

i was wondering if anyone could tell me if RBS has asked them to close the account?

I have a £1400 overdraft (just got out of college) and im not sure how many bank charges im due back yet but i just dont want them to turn around and tell me to clear the whole account if it can be avoided.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

    thanks.

what i was told from the customer relations dep today was they wouldent be closing my account @ this stage i take it what they mean by that is if i were to go for the full amount and take it to court then yea mabee i made it clear in my letter i dont want the full amount back @ the end of the day ppl some of the charges years ago were due to me being a prat and to be honest it isint really in my interests for them to close my account i have a good assesement can get me hands on a good amount of cash etc if i need it

me and my other half have decided if its a case of them closing my account i would be open to offers from them to avoid this then again if the offer is crap ill take my chances and bang them for the lot
  • I forgot to ask, has anyone got any experience of the turnaround time roughly after sending the initial refund request letter?
  • Please can anyone help.

I had a RBS current account and fell into difficulties last year when I went on maternity leave. My income dropped and I struggled to keep up payments. I have been charged just over £700 in bank charges for bounced cheques and unpaid direct debits which was added causing an unauthorised overdraft on the account. Both my current and loan account have now been passed on to their Credit Management Services Department and I have an agreement with them to start paying back what I owe. What method do I use to reclaim the charges as technically I have not yet paid them.

  • After sending the initial request letter last Thursday, I got a reply today saying that they are considering my claim. They still have 7 days to come back with an offer from the original request although I'm guessing it will take letter number 2 to make them sit up and take notice.

I'm so tempted to just phone them though and get it over and done witht he quick way!
  • I sent mine on the 13th of December and got a letter this morning offering me MORE than I'd actually claimed!! :D
Jings what a month this has been of scrimping and saving and paying for diesel to get to work with 50p pieces and the like - and now - I might be able to pay most of my debt off in one fell swoop. I reckon, barring the mortgage and home loan - my debts will be under a grand for the first time since I was about 18. Now to ramp up the matched betting with the help of the wonderful tctjeremy - and clear the rest off!!

    And more!! ;)
I have no more money to give - all you companies out there - do your worst - I give in!! :(
  • RBS claimed - £2230
    RBS paid - £2823.50

I live not far from Edinburgh and if it wasn't a PO box number on the address - I'd bloody drive through there and GIVE them the letter myself!! :D

Thank you thank you thank you thank you MSE :D

m8 i am also with the rbs can you tell me how they paid you over the amount you asked for plz ?
  • no idea :D

I've just got the letter this morning and I'm not going to query their arithmetic ;)

Maybe when I sent the letter in I undercalculated, or discounted charges that I had got which I should have added in? I don't know - but I'm not complaining - I'm sending the letter back tout-suite before they change their minds :D
